Honda Cars India began FY2027 on a stable note, recording total sales of 4,938 units in April 2026. This reflects a modest year-on-year increase of 1.38% compared to 4,871 units in April 2025. The slight growth was mainly supported by strong domestic demand, while export volumes saw a significant decline during the same period.

Honda’s domestic sales reached 4,069 units, marking a robust 21.10% year-on-year increase from 3,360 units sold in April of the previous year. This growth was driven by consistent demand for popular models like the Honda Amaze, Honda City, and Honda Elevate, which remain central to Honda’s portfolio in India.
On a month-on-month basis, however, domestic sales dropped by 46.35% from 7,585 units recorded in March 2026—a decline that is typically observed following the financial year-end sales push.

Exports totalled 869 units, registering a steep 42.49% year-on-year decline compared to 1,511 units in April 2025. This fall offset the gains seen in the domestic market, keeping overall growth largely flat. The drop in exports may indicate weaker demand in international markets or could be due to timing-related adjustments in shipments during the month.
Mr. Kunal Behl, Vice President, Marketing & Sales, Honda Cars India Ltd. said, “The new fiscal year has begun on a positive note for us, with good sales momentum for Amaze, City and Elevate. HCIL has recorded a 21% growth in domestic sales for April 2026. We remain confident of sustaining this growth trajectory in the coming months.”
Looking ahead, Honda is gearing up to reinforce its lineup in India. The company is scheduled to introduce the updated Honda City facelift along with the Honda ZR-V on May 22, with each model expected to serve a distinct role in its overall market strategy.
While ZR-V will be a fully imported CBU model, aimed at building brand image and presence in the premium SUV space, the City facelift will focus on improving features and competitiveness in the highly contested mid-size sedan segment. In addition, Honda has plans to introduce more CBU models later this year, further enhancing its brand positioning in India.
Beyond its near-term launches, Honda is also shaping its long-term strategy for India. Starting next year, the company is expected to roll out locally manufactured models, including its upcoming Honda 0 Series Alpha, which has already been spotted undergoing testing in the country. This move highlights Honda’s intention to expand its footprint not only in traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) segments but also in the fast-growing electric vehicle space.
Honda Cars India’s performance in April 2026 underscores solid domestic demand, even as export volumes remained under pressure. With several new introductions in the pipeline — including premium offerings and refreshed versions of key models — the company appears to be preparing for a more assertive push in the Indian market.
At the same time, Honda’s upcoming EV strategy, highlighted by developments like the Honda 0 Series Alpha, along with increased localisation efforts, is expected to play a significant role in defining its growth path in the years ahead.
