Mahindra Thar Roxx Spied Testing New DaVinci Suspension Technology

Mahindra cars appears to be working on another update for the Thar Roxx, with a test vehicle recently spotted on public roads. While the latest spy images do not reveal major exterior changes, the test mule has raised speculation that Mahindra could be evaluating its DaVinci suspension technology for the five-door lifestyle SUV.

The possibility comes after Mahindra introduced DaVinci damping technology on the updated three-door Thar, now known as the Thar OG. The system is designed to improve ride comfort and body control without compromising the vehicle's off-road characteristics.

Importantly, Mahindra has not officially confirmed that the Thar Roxx will receive DaVinci suspension. The latest test mule therefore points to ongoing development rather than a confirmed production specification.

Why Could the Thar Roxx Get DaVinci Dampers?

The current Thar Roxx already uses a sophisticated suspension setup compared with many lifestyle SUVs. It features an independent front suspension and a rear setup with a solid axle, Watt's linkage and frequency-dependent damping technology.

Mahindra's existing suspension arrangement is designed to provide a balance between on-road comfort and off-road capability. The addition of DaVinci damping could potentially further improve the SUV's ability to deal with sharp bumps, undulations and changes in road surface.

The technology is particularly interesting because the Thar Roxx is positioned as the more family-oriented member of the Thar range. Its five-door layout makes it more suitable for regular commuting and long-distance travel than the shorter three-door model.

What Is DaVinci Suspension Technology?

DaVinci is a type of frequency-dependent damping technology developed to provide different damping characteristics depending on the movement and frequency of the suspension.

Conventional frequency-dependent dampers can alter oil flow according to the type of road input. DaVinci technology uses a more complex mechanical valve arrangement and damping characteristics intended to provide greater control across a wider range of conditions.

In practical terms, the objective is to reduce harshness over sharp road imperfections while maintaining control during larger suspension movements and cornering.

This could be particularly useful on the Thar Roxx because the SUV needs to perform two very different roles. It has to remain capable on rough terrain while also offering reasonable comfort during everyday urban and highway driving.

Could Ride Comfort Improve Further?

The Thar Roxx already represents a significant step forward from the older three-door Thar in terms of ride comfort. Its longer wheelbase and five-door configuration also contribute to a more stable driving experience.

Adding DaVinci dampers could potentially make the SUV more comfortable over broken roads, sharp speed breakers and uneven surfaces. It could also improve body control when the vehicle encounters larger bumps at higher speeds.

The updated three-door Thar has already demonstrated the potential benefits of the technology, with improved control over uneven surfaces reported during early drives.

However, the Thar Roxx remains a body-on-frame lifestyle SUV. Even with more sophisticated damping, it is unlikely to deliver the same ride characteristics as a conventional monocoque crossover.

What Else Could Change on the Thar Roxx?

At present, the suspension is the main point of interest from the latest sighting. There is no confirmed information suggesting that the test vehicle represents a major exterior facelift.

Previous Thar Roxx test vehicles have also been spotted during development, with speculation around additional powertrain and equipment changes. However, these possibilities should be treated separately from the latest suspension-related speculation.

The latest sighting could therefore represent a mechanical update rather than a conventional facelift.

When Could the Updated Thar Roxx Arrive?

Mahindra has not announced an official launch date for a Thar Roxx equipped with DaVinci suspension. The company has also not confirmed whether the technology will be offered across the range or restricted to selected variants.

If the testing leads to a production update, Mahindra could use the suspension upgrade to further differentiate the Thar Roxx from the three-door Thar and strengthen its appeal as an everyday SUV.

The timing will ultimately depend on the development and validation process.

Mahindra Thar Roxx: What to Expect

The latest spy sighting is significant because the Thar Roxx already has a relatively sophisticated suspension system, and adding DaVinci technology could further improve its road manners.

For buyers, the biggest potential benefit would be improved comfort without sacrificing the SUV's off-road capability. But until Mahindra officially confirms the technology, the DaVinci suspension should be considered under testing and not a confirmed feature.

If introduced, the upgrade could make the Thar Roxx an even more convincing option for buyers who want a lifestyle SUV cars that can handle both daily urban driving and weekend off-road adventures.
