The third-generation Jeep Compass electric 4x4 has appeared in an Indian design patent filing, raising fresh interest around the possibility of the SUV coming to the Indian market. While the patent does not confirm an India launch, it shows that Jeep has protected the design of its latest Compass in the country.
The new-generation Compass is already being offered in international markets with electrified powertrain options, including mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric versions. The most powerful version is the all-electric Compass 4xe, which uses a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup.
Importantly, Jeep has not announced an India launch timeline for the new-generation Compass. The Indian patent should therefore be viewed as an indication of design protection rather than confirmation of a market launch.
The latest Compass retains Jeep's familiar seven-slot grille and upright SUV proportions but adopts a more modern and chiselled appearance.
The patented electric 4x4 version appears to have some styling differences compared with the other powertrain versions. These include a redesigned grille treatment, distinctive alloy wheels and more pronounced bumper detailing.
The SUV also features squared-off wheel arches, thick body cladding, black exterior elements and a more upright stance. The design continues to maintain the traditional Jeep character while incorporating styling elements developed specifically for the electrified Compass.
The new Compass has been developed around Stellantis' STLA Medium platform, which was designed to accommodate electrified vehicles.
The standard fully electric Compass uses a 74kWh battery pack and a single electric motor producing around 213hp and 345Nm. The front-wheel-drive version can deliver up to around 500km of WLTP range, while a longer-range version is also available internationally.
The more capable Compass 4xe full-electric uses two electric motors and all-wheel drive. It produces 375hp, making it the performance flagship of the new Compass range. Stellantis Media

The 4xe version uses separate electric motors on the front and rear axles, allowing the system to actively manage torque distribution and wheel slip. Jeep says the electric 4xe can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 4.9 seconds and offers a claimed WLTP range of up to 606km.
Despite becoming an electric SUV, the new Compass has not moved away from Jeep's off-road positioning.
The electric 4x4 version gets the Selec-Terrain system with different drive modes designed for varying road and terrain conditions. The 4xe model also gets a dedicated 4WD Lock mode.
The dual-motor system can independently control torque delivery between the front and rear axles. This gives the Compass 4xe the ability to respond quickly when traction conditions change.
The patented version is also equipped with features such as a multi-link rear suspension, front and rear parking sensors, rear camera and a heat pump.
The new-generation Compass gets a significantly more modern cabin than the outgoing model.
International versions feature a large 16-inch central touchscreen paired with a 10.25-inch digital instrument display. Other features include wireless smartphone connectivity, wireless charging, electronic parking brake and a rotary drive selector.
Higher variants also get premium equipment such as an illuminated seven-slot grille, Matrix LED lighting, larger alloy wheels, powered tailgate, personalised ambient lighting and additional driver-assistance features.
The SUV also offers a Level 2 driver assistance package with functions including adaptive cruise control and lane positioning assistance.
The biggest question is whether Jeep will actually bring this new Compass to India.
The current Compass continues to be sold in India, but the new-generation model was previously considered commercially difficult to introduce because of the cost associated with its STLA Medium platform. The latest Indian patent filing has now created fresh speculation around the model.
However, there is currently no official confirmation from Jeep regarding an India launch of the new Compass EV or Compass 4xe.
The patent could simply be intended to protect Jeep's intellectual property in India. At the same time, if Jeep changes its product strategy for the Indian market, the new Compass could potentially give the brand a strong premium electric SUV car offering.
If introduced in India, the electric Compass 4x4 could occupy a premium position and offer a combination of long-range EV capability and genuine all-wheel-drive hardware.
Its 375hp dual-motor setup, up to 606km claimed WLTP range and Jeep's Selec-Terrain system would give it a distinctive positioning compared with conventional electric SUVs.
For now, however, the Indian patent is the latest development rather than an India launch confirmation. More details will depend on Jeep's future plans for the Indian market.
