BYD cars has unveiled the new Atto 8, a premium seven-seat electric SUV, at the 2026 Paris Motor Show. Positioned at the top of the brand’s European SUV lineup, the Atto 8 combines a large 115kWh battery, a claimed driving range of up to 653km and a new ultra-fast charging system called FLASH Charging.

The new electric SUV will be offered in rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations. While the rear-wheel-drive version focuses on driving range, the more powerful all-wheel-drive variant delivers up to 775hp and accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in just 4.6 seconds.

BYD plans to introduce the Atto 8 in European markets during the first quarter of 2027. The company has not confirmed an India launch date or Indian-market specifications.

BYD Atto 8: Exterior Design and Road Presence

The BYD Atto 8 adopts a modern SUV design with a prominent front fascia, slim LED lighting and sculpted body panels. Its long roofline and three-row layout are intended to accommodate seven occupants, while carefully shaped bodywork and integrated aerodynamic elements help manage airflow.

At the front, slim daytime running lights sit above the main LED headlamp units, giving the SUV a contemporary appearance. The side profile features a strong shoulder line, pronounced rear wheel arches and darkened trim around the windows. At the rear, the lighting incorporates BYD’s Infinity Knot design, with an illuminated BYD logo positioned between the tail lamps.

The overall design balances a premium appearance with the practical proportions expected from a large family SUV.

Two Electric Powertrain Options

BYD will offer the Atto 8 in two fully electric configurations. Both use a second-generation Blade Battery with a capacity of 115kWh, but their motor arrangements and performance figures differ.

The Atto 8 Design RWD uses a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 340kW, equivalent to approximately 462hp, and 365Nm of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in eight seconds and offers a claimed combined WLTP range of up to 653km.

The range-topping Atto 8 Excellence AWD adds an electric motor on the front axle. Its combined output rises to 570kW, or approximately 775hp, while maximum torque reaches 775Nm. This version can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 4.6 seconds. Its claimed WLTP range is up to 602km, slightly lower than the rear-wheel-drive model because of the more performance-oriented powertrain.

FLASH Charging Technology Takes Centre Stage

One of the most significant features of the BYD Atto 8 is its FLASH Charging technology. According to BYD, the system can charge the battery from 10% to 70% in approximately five minutes and from 10% to 97% in nine minutes under specified conditions.

The SUV is the first BYD vehicle announced for the European market with this charging technology and the second-generation Blade Battery. BYD also states that charging performance can remain strong in extremely cold weather, although actual results will depend on temperature, charging equipment and operating conditions.

The company plans to expand its FLASH Charging network across Europe, targeting 3,000 charging stations by the end of 2027. This infrastructure will be important to the technology’s practical usefulness, as the advertised charging times require compatible high-power charging facilities.

Interior, Comfort and Technology

The Atto 8 is designed to accommodate families who need three rows of seating without giving up premium comfort features. BYD highlights heated, ventilated and massage-equipped seats in the first two rows, along with a technology-focused cabin.

The interior is expected to feature digital displays, connected infotainment functions and driver-assistance technologies. Its seven-seat layout makes it suitable for buyers who regularly travel with larger families or need additional passenger capacity.

Boot space will naturally depend on how the seats are configured. Buyers interested in carrying luggage with all seven seats in use should check the final market-specific cargo figures before making a purchase.

BYD Atto 8 India Launch: What to Expect

Although the Atto 8 has been revealed for the European market, BYD has not announced an official India launch date. The European specifications and charging claims should therefore not be treated as confirmed specifications for India.

If the SUV eventually enters the Indian market, its positioning would depend on local pricing, equipment, charging compatibility and the competition in the premium electric SUV segment. At present, buyers in India should wait for an official announcement before considering the Atto 8 a confirmed upcoming model.
