Kia cars has showcased the new Seltos Hybrid at the Paris Motor Show 2026, bringing its electrified compact SUV to European audiences for the first time. The model is an important addition to Kia's hybrid lineup, combining a petrol engine with electric assistance, a modern interior and a practical five-seat layout.
The Paris Motor Show is taking place from October 12 to 18, 2026. The Seltos Hybrid is among the key attractions on Kia's stand as the South Korean automaker expands its electrified vehicle portfolio in Europe.
For Indian buyers, the showcase is particularly relevant because a hybrid version of the Seltos is also being discussed for the domestic market. However, Kia has not confirmed an Indian launch date or final India-specific specifications.
The European-spec Kia Seltos Hybrid uses a 1.6-litre GDi petrol engine paired with an electric motor and hybrid system. Unlike a conventional electric vehicle, it does not rely entirely on an external charging source. The petrol engine and regenerative braking help supply energy to the hybrid system.
Kia offers two power configurations in Europe, depending on the drivetrain. The front-wheel-drive version produces a combined output of 154hp, while the all-wheel-drive version delivers 178hp.
The hybrid setup is designed to improve efficiency during everyday driving, particularly in situations involving frequent acceleration and deceleration. Electric assistance can help the vehicle move more smoothly in urban traffic while reducing the amount of work required from the petrol engine under suitable conditions.
The European model is offered with an automatic transmission. Its powertrain and drivetrain combinations may differ from those eventually offered in other markets.
The Seltos Hybrid adopts Kia's latest design direction, featuring a distinctive front grille, modern LED lighting and a relatively upright SUV stance. Its bodywork combines pronounced wheel arches, protective lower cladding and a floating-roof effect.
At approximately 4,430mm long, 1,830mm wide and 1,620mm tall, the European-spec Seltos sits in the compact SUV category. Its wheelbase measures 2,690mm, helping provide space for passengers in both rows.
The overall design balances city-friendly dimensions with the proportions expected from a family SUV cars. The model also offers a choice of exterior colours and different trim levels in Europe.
Inside, the new Seltos features a modern dashboard layout with a panoramic-style display arrangement. The European version includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument display, a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen and a separate 5.3-inch climate-control screen.
The cabin is designed to provide a combination of digital convenience and everyday practicality. Equipment and finishes vary by trim level, so buyers should check the specification of the individual version before comparing it with other SUVs.
Kia quotes a boot capacity of 536 litres for the European hybrid model. This makes luggage space one of its important practical features for families planning regular city use and longer journeys.
The SUV is available in Motion, Active and X-Line trims in France. The equipment offered in India, if the hybrid model arrives, could be different.
The Seltos Hybrid is intended to appeal to buyers who want better fuel efficiency without switching completely to an electric vehicle. Since it combines a petrol engine with an electric motor, it does not require owners to plan their journeys around public charging stations.
One notable technology is Kia's electric all-wheel-drive system, known as e-AWD, on the 178hp version. This configuration uses an additional electric motor to drive the rear axle, providing all-wheel-drive capability without a conventional mechanical connection between the axles.
The European model also introduces vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality to this hybrid powertrain. The system can supply power to compatible external electrical equipment, with a reported output of up to 3.6kW under supported conditions.
These features help distinguish the new Seltos Hybrid from conventional petrol-only compact SUVs, although availability depends on the market and variant.
The Indian launch is the key question for local buyers. Kia has plans to expand its hybrid offerings, and reports have indicated that a Seltos Hybrid could be introduced in India. However, the company has not announced a confirmed launch date, price or final specification for the Indian version.
Recent reporting suggests that a launch in 2027 may be more realistic than an arrival during the 2026 festive season. The India-bound version is expected to use a hybrid system paired with the existing 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, but this has not been officially confirmed as the final production specification.
If launched, the Seltos Hybrid could appeal to buyers who want a family SUV with improved fuel efficiency but are not ready to own a fully electric vehicle. Its market positioning will depend on pricing, real-world fuel economy, features and the availability of different variants.
The European model's 1.6-litre engine and power outputs should therefore not be treated as confirmed specifications for India.
If Kia introduces a hybrid Seltos in India, it could strengthen competition in the compact and mid-size SUV market. Buyers would likely compare it with existing petrol SUVs and other electrified models, weighing the potential fuel savings against the hybrid version's purchase price.
The Seltos already competes on styling, cabin equipment and everyday usability. A hybrid powertrain could give Kia another selling point, particularly for customers who cover significant distances in urban traffic.
The final competitive picture will become clearer once Kia confirms the Indian powertrain, equipment levels and pricing.
