Mahindra has launched the 2026 Thar OG in India, bringing a substantial update to its three-door lifestyle SUV. The new model is priced from Rs 10.32 lakh (ex-showroom), while the range-topping version goes up to Rs 18.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The introductory prices are applicable to deliveries made until November 30, 2026. Customer deliveries are scheduled to begin from October 11, 2026.

The Thar OG continues the three-door format but receives changes to its platform, suspension, steering, powertrain options, exterior styling, cabin equipment and safety package. Mahindra has also introduced three trims — AXT, LXT and ZXT — across different engine, transmission and drivetrain combinations.

2026 Mahindra Thar OG: Price and Variants

The entry-level AXT variant is available with the 1.5-litre diesel engine, manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive at Rs 10.32 lakh. The higher LXT and ZXT trims are offered with multiple petrol and diesel powertrain combinations, including 4WD options.

All prices are introductory ex-showroom prices.

More Powerful Engine Options

The Thar OG retains its three-engine strategy but brings increased output from the petrol and larger diesel engines. The 2.0-litre mStallion turbo-petrol now produces 119 kW and 330 Nm, while the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel develops 111.9 kW and 330 Nm. The 1.5-litre D117 diesel continues with 87.2 kW and 300 Nm.

Another notable change is the availability of the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel with rear-wheel drive, expanding the number of powertrain choices for the three-door Thar.

New Platform and Suspension

Mahindra has moved the Thar OG to the M_Glyde 4G platform, which the company says offers higher structural stiffness. The SUV also gets a new rear PENTALINK suspension with Watts Link, along with DAVINCI damping technology featuring Frequency Dependent Damping.

The SUV also receives electric power steering and enhanced NVH damping, with the changes aimed at improving ride comfort, stability and everyday drivability.

Updated Exterior Design

The 2026 Thar OG receives a refreshed front-end design featuring a new grille, LED headlamps and signature C-shaped LED DRLs. The front and rear bumpers have also been redesigned, while the SUV now gets 19-inch alloy wheels on higher variants.

Other styling changes include LED fog lamps with a cornering function and new LED tail lamps. Mahindra has also introduced Artemis Silver and Jeans Blue exterior colours alongside the existing colour options.

More Features and Improved Cabin

Inside, the Thar OG gets updated upholstery and additional convenience features. Depending on the variant, equipment includes a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cruise control, electrically adjustable ORVMs, push-button start and wireless charging.

The SUV also gets soft second-row armrests with integrated cupholders, while higher variants feature Truffle Brown leatherette upholstery and other cabin enhancements.

Safety Gets a Major Upgrade

Safety is another key area of improvement. The Thar OG is equipped with six airbags, including four HPTS airbags designed to provide additional head, pelvis, thorax and shoulder protection for occupants. The SUV also gets front parking sensors and an all-disc braking setup.

Other safety and electronic systems include ESP 9.3, traction control, hill-hold control, hill-descent control and rollover mitigation. These additions are intended to provide greater control both on regular roads and challenging terrain.

New Terrain Modes

For off-road driving, the Thar OG gets dedicated Mud, Sand and Snow terrain modes, while an electronic locking differential further enhances traction on difficult surfaces. These additions complement the SUV's 4WD configurations and existing off-road hardware.

With its revised platform, updated suspension, stronger engine options, refreshed design and expanded safety equipment, the 2026 Mahindra Thar OG represents a substantial update to the three-door Thar. Deliveries will commence in India from October 11, 2026.
