New Aprilia SXR GT Range Gets Larger Wheels

One of the most important changes on the new SXR GT range is the move to 14-inch wheels.

The previous SXR models used smaller 12-inch wheels, while the new GT versions get larger wheels aimed at improving stability and comfort across different road surfaces.

The larger wheels also give both scooters a more substantial stance and complement their maxi-scooter proportions. Aprilia is positioning the new models as urban-tourers rather than purely city-focused scooters.

SXR GT 125 Gets 125cc Engine

The SXR GT 125 hp-e uses a 124.5cc single-cylinder engine producing 10.6 PS and 10.4 Nm.

The engine is designed to offer a balance between performance and everyday usability. It is suitable for riders who primarily use their scooter in urban environments but also want the larger body and riding position associated with a maxi-scooter.

The 125cc version gets a 5-inch LCD instrument cluster and a combined braking system.

SXR GT 175 Offers More Performance

The larger SXR GT 175 hp-e is powered by a 174.7cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine.

It produces 13.3 PS and 14.14 Nm, giving it a noticeable performance advantage over the 125cc model.

The additional torque should make the 175 more suitable for riders who frequently travel with a pillion or use their scooter for longer highway and intercity journeys.

The engine is also compatible with E20 fuel and meets BSVI OBD II Stage B emission requirements.

More Technology on the SXR GT 175

The SXR GT 175 gets several features that are not available on the 125cc version.

It features a 5-inch TFT instrument display with Bluetooth connectivity. The system supports functions such as call and music management and also provides turn-by-turn navigation.

Additional handlebar-mounted controls make it easier for the rider to access connected functions without taking their hands away from the main riding position.

The 175 also gets a revised exhaust end pipe with a heat shield.

SXR GT 125 Uses CBS, 175 Gets ABS

The braking systems are another major difference between the two variants.

The SXR GT 125 uses a 220mm front disc and 140mm rear drum, supported by a combined braking system.

The SXR GT 175 retains the same basic brake hardware but adds single-channel ABS to the front wheel.

This gives the more powerful 175cc model an additional safety advantage, particularly during emergency braking situations.

Familiar Maxi-Scooter Styling

The new SXR GT models retain the familiar maxi-scooter design associated with the SXR family.

The scooters feature a large front apron, broad bodywork, a comfortable-looking seat and a tall windscreen. The design is intended to provide a combination of sporty styling and touring comfort.

The overall styling remains close to the earlier SXR models, but the updated GT versions receive new colour schemes and graphics.

Colour Options

The SXR GT 125 hp-e is available in Matte Black, Glossy Azzurro and Glossy White.

The SXR GT 175 hp-e is offered in Metallic Blue, Matte Black and Matte Green.

The different colour choices give buyers the option of choosing between more understated and sportier finishes.

Designed for City and Longer Rides

Aprilia is positioning the SXR GT range as a scooter that can handle both daily urban travel and longer journeys.

The large front fairing and windscreen are designed to provide additional wind protection, while the larger 14-inch wheels should help improve stability over uneven roads.

The 175cc model, with its additional performance and ABS, is particularly suited to riders who expect to spend more time on open roads.

Which Aprilia SXR GT Should You Buy?

The SXR GT 125 is the more affordable choice and makes sense for buyers who primarily need a premium scooter for city commuting. Its 125cc engine should be adequate for everyday use, while the maxi-scooter design provides a more substantial riding experience.

The SXR GT 175, meanwhile, costs Rs 20,000 more at the reported Maharashtra launch price but adds a larger engine, more torque, TFT instrumentation, Bluetooth connectivity, navigation and single-channel ABS.

For buyers who regularly travel longer distances, carry a passenger or simply want the more feature-rich version, the 175cc model is likely to be the more attractive option.

Aprilia SXR GT 125 and 175: Final Verdict

The launch of the SXR GT 125 hp-e and SXR GT 175 hp-e gives Aprilia a refreshed presence in India's premium maxi-scooter segment.

With prices starting at Rs 1,09,999, the new SXR GT 125 provides a relatively accessible entry into the range. The SXR GT 175 at Rs 1,29,999 offers more performance and additional equipment for buyers willing to spend more.

The biggest updates include the new engines, 14-inch wheels, improved technology and the addition of ABS on the 175cc version.

With their touring-focused design and updated mechanical package, the new SXR GT scooters could appeal to riders looking for something more premium and substantial than a conventional commuter scooter.
