The biggest mechanical change comes under the bonnet. The Maybach S 580e combines a 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor and a 22kWh battery.
The combined system produces 585hp and 750Nm, with power delivered to all four wheels through the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system. A nine-speed automatic transmission handles the power delivery.
The luxury sedan can accelerate from 0-100kmph in around 5 seconds, while its electronically limited top speed is 250kmph. More importantly for everyday use, the plug-in hybrid system allows the car to operate purely on electric power for shorter journeys.
Mercedes-Benz claims an electric-only range of up to 98km under the WLTP cycle. Electric driving is possible at speeds of up to 140kmph.
The S 580e supports both AC and DC charging. The onboard AC charger supports charging at up to 11kW, while DC fast charging is available at up to 60kW.
The combination of a relatively large battery and plug-in capability allows the Maybach to cover many short daily journeys without using its petrol engine. For longer trips, the petrol engine provides additional flexibility without requiring frequent charging stops.
The car also gets different drive modes, including Maybach, Electric and Battery Hold. Energy recuperation can be adjusted according to driving conditions.
The Maybach S-Class continues to place its greatest emphasis on rear-seat comfort. The India-spec S 580e is available exclusively in a four-seat configuration, with two individual executive rear seats separated by a full-length Business Centre Console.
The rear seats offer heating, ventilation and massage functions, while the rear compartment also receives additional comfort equipment. Temperature-controlled cup holders, wireless charging and rear-seat controls further enhance the chauffeur-driven experience.
The rear seats can recline to as much as 43 degrees, providing passengers with a more relaxed seating position for longer journeys.
The cabin features Mercedes-Benz's latest digital interface, including an MBUX Superscreen with a dedicated front passenger display. A 3D driver display, augmented-reality navigation and head-up display are also available.
For rear passengers, the S 580e features individual entertainment screens along with controls for various cabin functions.
The audio system is another highlight. A 31-speaker Burmester 4D surround sound system with 1,610 watts of output is part of the luxury package.
The cabin is finished with Maybach-specific materials, including exclusive Nappa leather, piano-lacquer trim and handcrafted detailing. Additional Maybach touches extend to the steering wheel, floor mats, seat backs and other interior elements.
The updated Maybach S-Class receives several visual changes that distinguish it from the standard S-Class.
At the front, the sedan features a larger illuminated Maybach grille, an illuminated Mercedes star on the bonnet and distinctive Maybach grille detailing. The headlamps also receive updated lighting technology with three-pointed-star-inspired daytime running light elements.
The Maybach S-Class retains its extended proportions and remains 180mm longer than the regular long-wheelbase S-Class. The India-spec version rides on 20-inch forged Maybach alloy wheels.
An illuminated Maybach emblem on the D-pillar and updated tail-lamp graphics further distinguish the luxury sedan.
The S 580e comes equipped with AIRMATIC air suspension and rear-axle steering as standard. The latter can turn the rear wheels by up to 10 degrees, helping improve manoeuvrability despite the sedan's large dimensions.
Safety and driver-assistance equipment includes Mercedes-Benz's advanced assistance systems, Digital Light technology and a comprehensive airbag package. The car also features a 360-degree camera system and additional vehicle protection technology.
The introduction of the S 580e marks an important change for the Maybach S-Class in India. Instead of relying solely on a large petrol engine, the new model combines traditional Maybach luxury with plug-in hybrid technology.
At Rs 3.35 crore, the S 580e targets buyers seeking chauffeur-focused luxury with the added ability to complete shorter journeys using electric power. With only 30 units allocated for the initial batch, the new Maybach is also positioned as an exclusive flagship offering.
Deliveries are expected to begin in November 2026.
