After the fourth fuel price hike in less than two weeks, fuel prices have reached record levels. This has affected household budgets and increased transportation costs.
In Jaipur, petrol prices increased by ₹2.79 per litre, rising from ₹109.87 to ₹112.66. Diesel prices went up by ₹2.73, from ₹95.05 to ₹97.78 per litre. Premium XP petrol also became costlier by ₹2.82, reaching ₹121.97 per litre.
These repeated price hikes have created concern among commuters, transport workers, and small businesses.
Auto-rickshaw drivers and taxi operators said they may have to increase fares because rising fuel prices have reduced their earnings.
Daily commuters, especially people using two-wheelers, said the higher fuel costs are making them avoid unnecessary travel.
Industry representatives said the fuel price hikes could affect the entire economy. As transport costs increase, prices of essential items like vegetables, grains, and dairy products may also rise.
Small traders and shopkeepers said higher delivery and transport costs would eventually be passed on to customers. Transport unions said the situation is becoming difficult to manage, with diesel prices close to ₹100 per litre.
“Every revision adds to our burden. We cannot absorb these costs indefinitely,” one union representative remarked. Delivery services and logistics firms echoed similar concerns, pointing to rising operational expenses. Rajendra Singh Bhati, president of Rajasthan Petroleum Dealers Association, said, “While the state govt stands to gain higher revenue collections through taxes and duties on fuel sales, the inflationary impact could offset these gains.” Consumer groups have urged temporary tax relief to cushion households, but officials maintain that price revisions are linked to national oil marketing company decisions.
