Kawasaki bikes has unveiled the 2027 Versys 900 and Versys 900 SE, expanding its adventure-touring lineup with a motorcycle that combines the performance of a four-cylinder engine with long-distance comfort and advanced rider-assistance technology. Positioned between the Versys 650 and Versys 1100, the new model brings a touring-focused design, an all-new trellis frame and radar-based safety features to the Versys family.
The motorcycle draws its powertrain inspiration from Kawasaki's Z900 and is designed primarily for road touring rather than serious off-road riding. Both variants are scheduled to become available in the UK from April 2027, while an India launch has not yet been officially confirmed.
Kawasaki will offer the new Versys 900 in two versions: the standard model and the more comprehensively equipped Versys 900 SE.
In the UK, prices start at £10,899 for the standard motorcycle, while the Versys 900 SE is priced at £11,799. Based on the reported Indian currency conversions, these amounts are approximately ₹13.74 lakh and ₹14.87 lakh, respectively. These are direct currency conversions, not expected Indian showroom prices.
The standard Versys 900 is available in Metallic Spark Black and Pearl Robotic White. The SE variant gets two different colour combinations: Plasma Lime Green with Metallic Spark Black, and Firecracker Red with Metallic Carbon Gray.
The new Kawasaki Versys 900 uses a 948cc, liquid-cooled, inline-four-cylinder engine derived from the brand's Z-series motorcycles. The powertrain produces a claimed 122 PS at 9,500 rpm and 97.3 Nm of peak torque at 8,000 rpm.
Power is delivered through a six-speed gearbox, with Kawasaki's Quick Shifter system supporting clutchless gear changes. The engine has been tuned to provide usable low- and mid-range response while retaining the high-revving character associated with a four-cylinder motorcycle.
Unlike a conventional adventure motorcycle designed primarily for off-road trails, the Versys 900 focuses on sporty road riding, highway cruising and long-distance touring. Its engine and chassis package is intended to offer a combination of performance, stability and everyday versatility.
The Versys 900 retains the upright riding position associated with the Versys family but adopts more extensive bodywork than the Z900. A semi-fairing and a seven-position adjustable windscreen are designed to improve wind protection during highway journeys.
The motorcycle features twin LED headlights, a large rider seat and a rear luggage rack. Its seat height can be adjusted between 825mm and 845mm, allowing riders to choose between the two available positions.
Kawasaki has developed an all-new steel trellis frame for the motorcycle, with a near 50:50 front-to-rear weight distribution. The setup is intended to deliver predictable handling, including when carrying a passenger or touring luggage.
Suspension duties are handled by 43mm upside-down front forks and a rear linkage-type monoshock. Both ends feature adjustment for suspension settings. The motorcycle rides on 17-inch alloy wheels at the front and rear, fitted with Metzeler Roadtec 01 tyres.
One of the most important additions is Kawasaki's Advanced Rider Assistance Systems (ARAS), which brings radar-based safety technology to the Versys range for the first time.
The system includes Adaptive Cruise Control Lite, Forward Collision Warning and Blind Spot Detection. Adaptive cruise control helps manage following distance in suitable conditions, forward collision warning alerts the rider to potential hazards ahead, and blind spot detection provides warnings about vehicles approaching from less visible areas.
The motorcycle also receives an Emergency Stop Signal, which activates a warning to help alert following traffic during hard braking. These systems are designed to support rider awareness rather than replace attentive riding.
Other electronic features include an inertial measurement unit (IMU), Kawasaki Cornering Management Function, traction control, enhanced ABS, integrated riding modes and selectable power modes.
A five-inch colour TFT instrument display provides riding information and smartphone connectivity. Turn-by-turn navigation is available through Kawasaki's Rideology motorcycle app.
The Versys 900 SE receives additional touring and protection equipment over the standard model. Its extra features include compact LED fog lamps, heated grips, hand guards, a radiator screen, frame-protection sliders, a lower cowl and a centre stand.
These additions are intended to improve comfort in colder conditions and provide extra convenience for riders undertaking longer journeys. Kawasaki will also offer touring-oriented accessory packages, including Tourer and Grand Tourer editions with luggage and other genuine accessories.
The SE variant is therefore aimed at riders who want a more fully equipped motorcycle from the outset, while the standard version retains the core engine, chassis and electronic package.
Kawasaki has not announced an official India launch date or price for the Versys 900. Its positioning between the Versys 650 and Versys 1100 makes it a potentially interesting addition to the company's Indian motorcycle lineup, but availability remains uncertain.
If introduced, the model could appeal to riders seeking a premium four-cylinder sport-tourer with advanced electronic assistance and long-distance comfort. The standard variant may be the more likely option for India, although Kawasaki has not confirmed which version, if any, will arrive.
For now, the Versys 900 and Versys 900 SE are scheduled for UK availability from April 2027. More information about the Indian market, including pricing and specifications, will depend on a future announcement from Kawasaki.
