New 7-Seater SUV to Take on Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV 7XO, Launch Just 3 Days Away

August has already been an exciting month for the Indian car market with several new models being revealed and launched. Now, another important SUV is ready to enter the market, with its launch expected in just three days.

The upcoming SUV is especially interesting because it could bring a feature that is currently not offered by any other SUV in its segment.

New MG 7-Seater SUV Coming Soon

JSW MG Motor India is preparing to introduce a new seven-seater SUV in the Indian market. While its official name has not yet been confirmed, reports suggest that it could be called the MG Hector Hawk or MG Hector Tomahawk.

Once launched, the new SUV is expected to compete with models such as the Mahindra XUV 7XO and Tata Safari.

The upcoming MG SUV is expected to be a rebadged version of the Wuling Starlight 560, which is already sold in international markets. Since it will enter a highly competitive segment in India, competitive pricing will be important.

The SUV is expected to be priced between ₹17 lakh and ₹28 lakh, with the mentioned range based on on-road pricing in Mumbai.

Plug-In Hybrid Technology Could Be Its Biggest USP

The upcoming MG seven-seater is expected to be offered in two powertrain versions – electric and ICE.

However, the ICE version could be the more interesting one as it is expected to feature plug-in hybrid technology. This would make it different from most of the SUVs currently available in this segment.

Globally, the Wuling Starlight 560's ICE version uses a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine combined with a 20.5 kWh battery pack.

This powertrain is capable of delivering an EV-only range of around 125 km, while the total range with a full tank can exceed 1,000 km.

If similar specifications are brought to India, the SUV could potentially deliver mileage of around 20–24 km/l. For a three-row SUV of this size, such efficiency would be a significant advantage.

Expected Features of the New MG SUV

In terms of equipment, the upcoming MG seven-seater is expected to receive a modern feature list. Some of the expected highlights include:

• 8.8-inch digital driver's display
• Powered front seats
• Ventilated front seats

While its feature list may not be dramatically different from some of its rivals, the plug-in hybrid powertrain could give the SUV a major advantage.

The Indian seven-seater SUV market already has several strong contenders, so MG will need something more than just features and styling to attract buyers.

The expected plug-in hybrid technology could become the biggest selling point of this upcoming SUV. It could allow owners to use electric power for shorter trips while retaining the petrol engine for longer journeys.

With its seven-seat layout, multiple powertrain options and plug-in hybrid technology, the upcoming MG SUV could become an interesting new competitor to the Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV 7XO.
