Volkswagen cars has unveiled the all-electric ID. Tiguan, a new electric SUV cars designed to combine practical family-car usability with modern technology and long-distance driving capability. The new model marks an important step in the German automaker’s electric vehicle strategy and is expected to reach European markets in early 2027.
The Volkswagen ID. Tiguan will succeed the ID.4 and ID.5 in the brand’s electric cars SUV lineup. It will be sold alongside the conventional Tiguan, which will continue to be available with petrol, diesel and hybrid powertrains. According to Volkswagen, the new electric SUV offers a driving range of up to 600km on a single charge, depending on the battery and powertrain configuration.
The new ID. Tiguan adopts Volkswagen’s latest electric vehicle design language, featuring a modern front-end appearance, distinctive lighting elements and a more substantial road presence. Its exterior has been developed to give the electric SUV the visual appeal of a vehicle from a higher segment.
The model is based on the MEB+ electric vehicle platform, which supports its battery-electric powertrain and modern vehicle technologies. Volkswagen has focused on combining contemporary styling with the practicality expected from a mid-size SUV.
Volkswagen will offer the ID. Tiguan with two battery capacity options: 58kWh and 77kWh. Buyers will also have a choice of rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations, depending on the variant.
The entry-level version uses a 58kWh battery paired with a rear-mounted electric motor producing 190PS. The larger 77kWh battery is available with a rear-wheel-drive powertrain producing 286PS, while the range-topping all-wheel-drive version develops 299PS.
The maximum claimed driving range is up to 600km under the WLTP testing cycle. Actual range will vary depending on the selected configuration, driving conditions, speed, temperature and use of climate control.

The cabin receives a significant technology-focused update, with a redesigned dashboard and multiple digital displays. The layout includes a 10-inch digital instrument cluster and a 15-inch central infotainment touchscreen. A 12-inch passenger display will also be available, depending on the configuration.
Unlike interiors that rely entirely on touchscreen controls, Volkswagen has retained physical buttons for selected functions, including climate control. This approach is intended to make frequently used controls easier to operate while driving.
Other available equipment includes electrically adjustable front seats with memory, massage and ventilation functions, a panoramic sunroof, wireless smartphone charging, ambient lighting and a Harman Kardon sound system. Equipment availability will depend on the trim level and market.
The electric SUV will be offered in four trim levels: Trend, Life, Style and R-Line. These versions are expected to provide different combinations of comfort, technology and styling features.
The ID. Tiguan will incorporate a range of driver-assistance and connected-car technologies. One-pedal driving allows drivers to control acceleration and much of the vehicle’s deceleration using the accelerator pedal, helping simplify everyday driving.
Volkswagen has also announced Connected Travel Assist, which supports assisted driving on suitable roads and includes features such as assisted lane changes and traffic-light recognition in applicable conditions.
Another practical feature is vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality, which allows compatible external electrical devices to draw power from the vehicle. A digital key function will also allow compatible smartphones to lock, unlock and start the SUV.
These features are intended to make the ID. Tiguan suitable for everyday commuting as well as longer journeys.
A maximum claimed range of 600km could make the ID. Tiguan a practical option for drivers who want an electric SUV for both city use and longer trips. However, the range figure is based on the WLTP test cycle and should not be treated as a guaranteed real-world distance.
Volkswagen has also announced a maximum towing capacity of up to two tonnes, depending on the selected powertrain. The vehicle is designed to accommodate five occupants and includes additional front storage, known as a frunk, alongside its conventional luggage compartment.
The combination of multiple battery options, two drivetrain layouts and different equipment levels should allow customers to choose a version that suits their priorities.
The Volkswagen ID. Tiguan is scheduled to arrive in European markets in early 2027. Pre-sales in Germany and several other European markets are expected to begin in October 2026, with the announced starting price in Germany set at €42,695.
Volkswagen has not confirmed an India launch date or India-specific pricing. Therefore, its availability in the Indian market remains unconfirmed.
