BYD is moving a step closer to expanding its India portfolio with the upcoming Atto 2 midsize SUV. The electric SUV has been spotted testing once again on Indian roads, indicating that its official launch could take place later this year. Fresh spy shots reveal several exterior and interior details, closely matching the version already on sale in international markets.

Globally, the BYD Atto 2 is available in both Battery Electric Vehicle (EV) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) forms. However, since BYD currently sells only fully electric passenger vehicles in India, the Atto 2 is expected to debut here as an EV, although the company has not officially confirmed its powertrain.

The latest spy images capture the front fascia and side profile of the camouflaged SUV, revealing several production-ready design elements.

Visible highlights include:

• Sleek LED headlights connected by a gloss-black trim
• Prominent BYD logo on the front
• Stylish petal-inspired alloy wheels
• Black wheel-arch and body cladding
• Clean side profile with conventional door handles

Although the rear section remained covered, the India-spec model is expected to feature connected LED tail lamps and a sporty black rear bumper with silver accents, similar to the global version.

Interior Gets Premium Technology

Spy shots also offer a glimpse inside the cabin, showing a modern and technology-focused interior.

Will India Get the EV or PHEV?

At present, BYD car offers only electric passenger vehicles in the Indian market.

However, the company recently showcased its DM-i Plug-in Hybrid technology and has already confirmed that the BYD Seal U DM-i will become its first plug-in hybrid model for India by the end of 2026.

Whether the Atto 2 will also receive the DM-i powertrain in India remains unconfirmed. Industry expectations currently suggest that the SUV will initially arrive as an all-electric model.
