Jaguar Type 01 To Make India Debut in Q2 of 2027: Electric GT Details

Khyati Sharma 2026-10-29

Jaguar cars is preparing to bring its new all-electric luxury grand tourer, the Type 01, to India in 2027 as part of its transformation into an electric-only luxury brand. While the second quarter of 2027 has been suggested as a possible timeline, the exact India debut date remains unconfirmed, and recent reports point towards the second half of the year. The Type 01 features a tri-motor electric powertrain, up to 1,030 PS of power and a claimed range of up to 400 miles under the EPA test cycle.

Jaguar is preparing for a significant new chapter with the Type 01, its first production model developed under the brand's new electric-focused strategy. The four-door electric grand tourer made its global debut in New York on October 6, 2026, introducing a dramatic new design direction and advanced electric vehicle technology.

The model is expected to become a flagship offering for Jaguar as the British luxury manufacturer looks to strengthen its presence in the premium electric vehicle segment. India is among the markets targeted for the new model, with Jaguar Land Rover India expected to introduce the vehicle in 2027.

However, the company has not officially confirmed a Q2 2027 India launch. Jaguar's global announcement states that orders are expected to open in early 2027, with first customer deliveries anticipated in the second half of the year. An Indian public debut has also been reported for the second half of 2027.

The Type 01 will compete in the high-end electric GT category, targeting buyers who want sports-car performance, luxury interiors and long-distance electric driving capability.

Jaguar Type 01 India Launch Timeline

The Jaguar Type 01 represents a major product launch for the brand following its decision to reposition itself around exclusive, design-led luxury vehicles.

The model was unveiled globally in October 2026, and production is scheduled to begin in the United Kingdom in 2027. Jaguar plans to open orders in early 2027 before beginning customer deliveries in the second half of the year.

India is expected to form part of the car's international expansion. Recent reports suggest that the Type 01 will play an important role in Jaguar Land Rover India's product strategy for 2027.

Nevertheless, buyers should not treat April–June 2027 as a confirmed India launch window. The precise Indian debut date, booking schedule and delivery timeline have yet to be announced officially.

The company is expected to share more details about the Indian-market model closer to its introduction.

Jaguar Type 01 Design: A New Direction for the Brand

The Type 01 introduces a striking design language that differs significantly from Jaguar's previous-generation sedans and sports cars.

The electric GT features a long bonnet, a low roofline, wide proportions and a distinctive rear section. Its design draws inspiration from the Type 00 concept, which previewed Jaguar's new styling direction in 2024.

The production model retains much of that concept's dramatic appearance while incorporating features intended for everyday road use.

At the front, the Type 01 features slim lighting elements and Jaguar's new visual signature. The bodywork uses clean surfaces and carefully shaped panels to create a distinctive luxury-car appearance.

The side profile is defined by frameless doors, large wheels and a sweeping roofline. Jaguar says the car's aerodynamic development has helped achieve a claimed drag coefficient of approximately 0.23.

At the rear, a distinctive lighting arrangement and carefully sculpted bodywork maintain the car's minimalist appearance. The design also uses a camera-based digital rear-view system instead of a conventional rear windscreen.

Jaguar has positioned the Type 01 as a four-door luxury grand tourer rather than a conventional family sedan. Its design prioritises visual impact, performance and exclusivity.

Jaguar Type 01 Battery, Range and Performance

The Type 01 is built on Jaguar's dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA), developed specifically for the brand's next generation of electric vehicles.

One of its main highlights is an 850-volt electrical architecture designed to support high-performance driving and rapid charging.

The car uses a usable battery capacity of approximately 118kWh, according to published specifications. Jaguar claims an estimated EPA driving range of up to 400 miles, equivalent to around 644km. Other published estimates suggest a WLTP range of up to approximately 720km, although final certified figures may vary by market.

The electric GT uses three electric motors, with one motor at the front and two at the rear, providing all-wheel drive.

The combined output is rated at up to 1,030 PS and 1,365 Nm of torque in reported specifications. Jaguar claims acceleration from 0 to 100kmph in approximately 3.2 seconds.

The car also features intelligent torque vectoring, designed to distribute power between the wheels to improve traction and handling.

These specifications place the Type 01 among the most powerful electric grand tourers planned for the luxury market.

Jaguar Type 01 Charging Technology

Fast charging is another important feature of the upcoming electric GT.

Jaguar says the Type 01 can add up to 200 miles of driving range in approximately 13 minutes when connected to a compatible 350kW DC fast charger under suitable conditions.

This is intended to make longer journeys more convenient by reducing the time spent at charging stations.

Actual charging performance will depend on factors such as battery temperature, the charger's output, the battery's state of charge and local charging conditions.

The vehicle's 850-volt electrical architecture supports its high-power charging capability. However, Indian charging infrastructure and the specifications of the India-market vehicle will determine the charging experience for local customers.

Jaguar is expected to confirm the relevant charging specifications and compatibility details before the car's Indian launch.

Jaguar Type 01 Interior and Features

The cabin follows the same minimalist approach as the exterior, combining modern technology with premium materials and distinctive design elements.

The dashboard features a large 24-inch glass OLED driver display, accompanied by a separate seven-inch touchscreen positioned between the front occupants.

A full-width panoramic soundbar and Jaguar's Immersive Sound System form part of the premium audio experience. The cabin also features a panoramic roof and carefully integrated decorative elements.

Jaguar has designed the interior around four individual seating positions, reinforcing the Type 01's grand touring character.

The low roofline and sculpted bodywork mean the car is not intended to prioritise maximum rear-seat space like a traditional limousine. Instead, it aims to deliver a more distinctive luxury experience for drivers and passengers.

Final India-specific equipment, upholstery options, connectivity features and safety systems have not yet been announced.

Jaguar Type 01 Expected Price in India

The Jaguar Type 01 will occupy the premium end of the electric vehicle market.

Jaguar has announced a starting global price of £130,000 in the United Kingdom. This provides an indication of the model's positioning, but it should not be directly converted into an Indian ex-showroom price.

The Indian price has not been officially announced. Import duties, taxes, logistics costs, equipment levels and market positioning could significantly influence the final price.

Some automotive estimates place the expected Indian price in the multi-crore range, but these remain speculative until Jaguar Land Rover India releases an official figure.

The Type 01 is expected to appeal to affluent buyers seeking an exclusive electric performance car rather than a mass-market EV.

Jaguar Type 01 Rivals in India

Once launched, the Type 01 is expected to compete with high-performance luxury electric vehicles rather than mainstream electric sedans.

Potential rivals include the Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron GT. The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe EV could also be relevant to the broader performance-luxury segment, depending on its market availability and positioning.

The Type 01's distinctive design, tri-motor powertrain and premium cabin could help Jaguar differentiate itself from established German competitors.

Its success in India will depend on the final price, customer deliveries, after-sales support and the availability of suitable charging infrastructure.

Jaguar's Electric-Only Transformation

The Type 01 is central to Jaguar's wider brand transformation. Instead of simply replacing existing petrol models with electric versions, the company is introducing a new product strategy focused on luxury, distinctive design and higher-value vehicles.

The new electric GT is the first production model built on Jaguar's dedicated JEA platform and is expected to lead a new generation of vehicles.

For India, the arrival of the Type 01 would mark an important step in Jaguar's return to the market with a completely new product direction. It will also coincide with Jaguar Land Rover's broader plans to expand its electric vehicle offerings.

However, the company has not yet announced a complete India-specific rollout plan for all future Jaguar electric models.
