The Evolution is the entry-level hybrid variant, while the Techno adds convenience and comfort features. The top-spec Emotion receives additional premium equipment, including upgraded alloy wheels, ventilated front seats and a powered tailgate.

The new hybrid's pricing positions it against established strong-hybrid SUVs in India's midsize segment.

Engine and Hybrid Powertrain

The Renault Duster Strong Hybrid uses a 1.8-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with two electric motors and a 1.4 kWh lithium-ion battery. The complete hybrid system produces a combined output of 160 PS.

The system uses a dedicated eight-speed hybrid transmission that manages power from the petrol engine and electric motors according to driving conditions.

Unlike a conventional petrol vehicle, the hybrid can start and move using electric power when conditions permit. The petrol engine joins in when more power is needed or when the system determines that it is more efficient to use the engine.

The two electric motors perform different functions. One primarily drives the wheels, while the other supports the petrol engine and helps manage energy generation. This arrangement allows the powertrain to switch between electric, petrol and combined operation.

Renault claims the SUV cars can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.6 seconds. The hybrid setup is designed to balance everyday performance with fuel efficiency.

Fuel efficiency is one of the biggest highlights of the new Duster hybrid. Renault claims an ARAI-certified mileage of 29 km/l, making fuel economy a central selling point of the model. The company also claims a combined driving range of up to 1,400 km on a full tank.

The SUV can operate in electric mode under suitable conditions, particularly during low-speed urban driving. Renault says the vehicle can run electrically for up to 80% of the time in city driving, depending on conditions.

The battery recharges automatically through regenerative braking and the petrol engine. This means owners do not need to connect the SUV to an external charger.

Actual mileage and driving range will vary according to traffic, road conditions, driving habits, passenger load and air-conditioning use. The claimed figures should therefore not be treated as guaranteed real-world results.
