JSW MG Motor India has expanded its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) programme to its premium electric models, the MG Cyberster and MG M9. The new ownership option is being offered through MG SELECT, the brand's luxury retail channel, and is aimed at reducing the initial purchase cost of these high-end electric vehicles.

Under the new BaaS structure, the MG Cyberster is priced at ₹72.49 lakh, while the MG M9 is available at ₹69.99 lakh. In addition to the upfront vehicle price, customers opting for the programme have to pay a battery rental charge of ₹8 per kilometre.

The new pricing lowers the initial cost of the Cyberster by around ₹10.01 lakh and the M9 by around ₹9.96 lakh compared with their battery-inclusive prices. The savings mentioned here are based only on the upfront purchase price and do not include the ongoing per-kilometre battery rental charges.

MG Cyberster: Electric Sports Car With 510 PS

The MG Cyberster continues to be offered as a two-seat electric sports car with a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive powertrain. It produces 510 PS of power and 725 Nm of torque. The model comes with a claimed range of around 580 km and can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in approximately 3.2 seconds.

The Cyberster also gets distinctive electrically operated scissor doors, a low-slung sports-car profile and a technology-focused cabin. There are no mechanical changes announced with the introduction of the BaaS option.

MG M9 Continues With 90 kWh Battery

The MG M9 is a premium electric MPV positioned around luxury, comfort and spaciousness. It continues with a 90 kWh battery pack and a claimed range of 548 km. Its front-mounted electric motor produces 245 PS and 350 Nm.

Inside, the M9 features premium Presidential Seats with 16-way adjustment, heating, ventilation and multiple massage functions. Other highlights include a dual sunroof, 64-colour ambient lighting and a 13-speaker audio system.

Safety and driver-assistance equipment includes Level 2 ADAS, a driver monitoring system and seven airbags. The M9 also carries five-star safety ratings from Euro NCAP and ANCAP, according to MG's published information.

What Does BaaS Mean for MG Buyers?

With the Battery-as-a-Service model, the cost of the vehicle and battery ownership are separated. Customers pay a lower upfront amount for the vehicle and subsequently pay the specified battery rental fee based on the distance travelled.

For the Cyberster and M9, the battery rental is currently set at ₹8 per km. This means the overall ownership cost will depend on how much the vehicle is driven over time.

The BaaS option therefore gives customers another purchase structure for MG's premium electric models, alongside the conventional battery-inclusive pricing.
