Maruti Suzuki has reached a significant milestone in its manufacturing journey with the commencement of commercial production at Plant D of its Hansalpur facility in Gujarat. The addition of the fourth production line has increased the plant’s annual manufacturing capacity from 7.5 lakh units to 10 lakh units, making Hansalpur the largest passenger vehicle manufacturing facility at a single location in India. It is also the first Suzuki production facility worldwide to achieve an annual production capacity of one million vehicles.
The newly operational Plant D contributes an additional production capacity of 2.5 lakh vehicles per year. The facility will initially manufacture Maruti Suzuki’s flagship electric SUV, the e Vitara, supporting the company’s growing focus on electric mobility.
With this expansion, Maruti Suzuki’s total installed manufacturing capacity across India has increased to 29 lakh vehicles per annum, further strengthening its position as the country’s largest passenger vehicle manufacturer.
Spread across nearly 640 acres in Gujarat, the Hansalpur manufacturing complex has received cumulative investments of approximately Rs 25,288.7 crore, including around Rs 3,900 crore invested in the newly commissioned Plant D.
The facility now houses four manufacturing plants that produce some of Maruti Suzuki’s most popular models, including the Baleno, Fronx, Swift, and the all-electric e Vitara.

Apart from serving the domestic market, Hansalpur has also become Maruti Suzuki’s largest export hub, contributing nearly 47% of the company’s total vehicle exports during FY2025-26.
Following the latest expansion, Maruti Suzuki’s manufacturing footprint in India now stands at a combined installed capacity of 2.9 million vehicles annually across four production facilities:

Since production began in 2017, Hansalpur has grown at an impressive pace. The facility produced its first one million vehicles by October 2020 and crossed the five-million cumulative production milestone in May 2026, highlighting its increasing importance within Maruti Suzuki’s global manufacturing network.
Commenting on the expansion, Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India, said that Gujarat has become one of the company's most important manufacturing and export bases. He noted that the commissioning of Plant D will support rising demand in both domestic and international markets while reinforcing Maruti Suzuki's "Make in India, Make for the World" vision.
He also stated that Hansalpur, along with the upcoming Sanand facility, will play a key role in helping the company achieve its long-term objective of producing four million vehicles annually in India
