Kia car has showcased the Syros Flex-Fuel Vehicle (FFV) Concept in India, marking the brand's first flex-fuel passenger vehicle demonstration for the Indian market. The concept has been developed to operate on petrol, pure ethanol and different petrol-ethanol blends, including E100.
The Syros Flex-Fuel Concept was showcased as Kia explores alternative fuel technologies in response to India's growing focus on higher ethanol blending. However, the company has not yet confirmed a production timeline for the flex-fuel version.
The Kia Syros E100 concept uses a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, direct-injection turbo-petrol engine. Kia has modified the powertrain to support different ethanol concentrations.
The company has made changes to the engine control unit (ECU), transmission control unit (TCU) and fuel system to enable operation with varying petrol-ethanol mixtures. Kia has not disclosed the power and torque figures of the flex-fuel version yet.
One of the biggest mechanical differences compared with the regular turbo-petrol Syros is the gearbox. While the standard turbo-petrol model uses a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, the flex-fuel concept is equipped with a 6-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.

The flex-fuel concept largely retains the exterior design of the regular Kia Syros. It continues with the SUV's upright and boxy profile along with LED lighting elements, roof rails and 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels.
At the rear, the concept retains the distinctive L-shaped LED tail-lamps. The cabin also follows the existing Syros design, including its modern dashboard and multiple digital displays.
Flex-fuel technology allows a vehicle to operate using different proportions of petrol and ethanol rather than being restricted to a particular fuel blend. In the case of the Syros concept, the powertrain has been engineered to accommodate fuels ranging from conventional petrol to 100% ethanol.
India has been working towards wider adoption of higher ethanol blends as part of its efforts to reduce dependence on imported crude oil. The government notified standards for higher ethanol-petrol blends in May 2026 and subsequently approved regulations relating to E100-compatible vehicles.
At present, Kia has not announced when the Syros Flex-Fuel Concept will enter series production. The vehicle should therefore be viewed as a technology demonstrator rather than a confirmed upcoming variant.
If Kia eventually introduces a production version, the Syros could become an important part of the company's strategy for alternative fuel vehicles in India.

The Kia Syros E100 Flex-Fuel Concept provides an early look at Kia's approach to higher ethanol-blend fuels in India. Its 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, modified fuel system and 6-speed automatic transmission have been developed to support a wide range of fuel mixtures, including E100.
While there is currently no confirmed production timeline, the concept indicates that Kia is actively evaluating flex-fuel technology as India's automotive industry prepares for greater adoption of ethanol-based fuels.
