Mahindra’s upcoming Vision S-based SUV has been spotted testing again in India, revealing new details about its rear design and underbody. The latest prototype gets slim vertical tail lamps integrated into the rear pillars, giving it a visual connection with the Scorpio Classic and Scorpio N. The production version is expected to enter the sub-4-metre SUV segment, although Mahindra has not yet confirmed its final name.

Scorpio-Like Vertical Tail Lamps

The most noticeable change on the latest Vision S test vehicle is the rear lighting setup. The prototype features slim, vertically positioned lamps mounted alongside the rear windscreen. Each unit appears to have stacked horizontal lighting elements.

This design is different from the 2025 Vision S concept, which had its main rear lamps positioned lower on either side of the spare wheel. The latest setup appears more production-oriented and visually resembles the vertical rear lamp treatment used by Mahindra’s Scorpio family.

However, the new design does not confirm that the upcoming SUV will officially be sold as a Scorpio model. There has been speculation about a possible Scorpio Sport name, but Mahindra has not announced the production name yet.

Rugged SUV Design

The Vision S continues to feature a boxy and upright design aimed at giving it a traditional SUV appearance despite its expected sub-4-metre dimensions. The test vehicle gets a tailgate-mounted spare wheel, a relatively upright rear profile and short overhangs.

Earlier prototypes have also revealed features such as a prominent grille, LED lighting, flush-fitting door handles, squared wheel arches and a high bonnet. The overall design is expected to retain several elements of the Vision S concept showcased by Mahindra in 2025.

16-Inch Wheels And 235-Section Tyres

The latest spy images also provide clues about the tyre setup. The spare tyre appears to carry a 235/70 R16 marking, suggesting a 235 mm-wide tyre mounted on a 16-inch wheel.

The tall sidewall could be useful for absorbing impacts from uneven roads, although final wheel and tyre specifications may vary between production variants.

Independent Rear Suspension Could Be Offered

Another interesting detail visible in the latest spy shots is the rear suspension hardware. Suspension links can be seen extending inward from the rear wheel areas.

This could point towards an independent rear suspension arrangement, although the available spy images are not sufficient to confirm the exact production suspension setup. The final specifications will need to be confirmed by Mahindra.

Interior And Platform

Previous test mules have revealed a modern cabin featuring two horizontal display screens, vertically positioned AC vents and an electronic parking brake. Some of the equipment visible in the test vehicles could still be temporary, so the final production cabin may differ.

The Vision S is being developed on Mahindra’s new NU_IQ modular platform, which has been designed to accommodate multiple powertrain technologies. The architecture can support internal-combustion, hybrid and electric powertrains, although Mahindra has not confirmed which powertrain combinations will be offered on the production Vision S.

Expected Launch And Rivals

The production-spec Vision S is expected to arrive in India in 2027. It is expected to sit in the sub-4-metre SUV category and could be positioned above the XUV 3XO in Mahindra’s portfolio. Potential competitors include the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Maruti Suzuki Brezza and Skoda Kylaq.

For now, the Vision S name remains a concept/project name, while the production name, engine options, dimensions, prices and final feature list are still awaited.
