BMW has officially launched the new i5 Long Wheelbase (LWB) in India at an introductory ex-showroom price of ₹79.60 lakh. The electric luxury sedan is BMW India's first locally produced electric sedan and is manufactured at the company's Chennai plant. Deliveries have started immediately.
The BMW i5 LWB is offered in the eDrive35L M Sport variant, while a limited First Edition is also available at the same introductory price. BMW has confirmed that all 99 First Edition units were sold before the official launch.
The new BMW i5 LWB gets an 81.6 kWh high-voltage battery pack paired with a rear-mounted electric motor. The powertrain produces 268 hp and 410 Nm of peak torque.
The electric sedan can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 6.7 seconds and has a claimed top speed of 195 km/h. BMW claims a maximum driving range of 669 km on a single charge under the MIDC test cycle.
For charging, the i5 LWB supports up to 160 kW DC fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in around 33 minutes. It also supports 11 kW AC charging and comes with a BMW Wallbox charger and installation.
The BMW i5 LWB measures 5,175 mm in length, 2,156 mm in width and 1,520 mm in height, with a 3,105 mm wheelbase. The extended wheelbase is designed to provide additional space and comfort for rear passengers.
Exterior highlights include an illuminated BMW kidney grille, adaptive LED headlights, flush-fitting door handles and 20-inch M aerodynamic alloy wheels.
The sedan is available with four exterior colour options: Mineral White, Phytonic Blue, Carbon Black and Oxide Grey.
The BMW i5 LWB gets a premium cabin focused on rear-seat comfort and luxury. It features a 12.3-inch digital instrument display and a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system integrated into the BMW Curved Display.

The BMW i5 LWB comes equipped with adaptive rear-axle air suspension, designed to improve ride comfort and stability on Indian roads. Enhanced ground clearance is also offered for better usability in varied road conditions.
Safety and driver-assistance features include eight airbags, Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go, lane-change warning, collision warning and Parking Assistant Professional with remote parking capability.

The BMW i5 LWB strengthens the brand's electric vehicle portfolio in India while combining a long-wheelbase cabin, premium rear-seat comfort and a claimed 669 km MIDC range. With local production at BMW's Chennai facility, the model also marks an important step in the company's India electrification strategy.
