Yamaha R2 Booking Opens at ₹10,000 Ahead of India Launch

Yamaha R2 Pre-Bookings Open at ₹10,000 Ahead of August 27 Launch

2026-08-12

Yamaha R2 Pre-Bookings Open Ahead of August 27 Launch, New Teaser Fuels Speculation

Yamaha bikes has opened pre-bookings for its upcoming R-series fully faired motorcycle in India ahead of its scheduled August 27, 2026 launch. Although the Japanese manufacturer has not officially disclosed the motorcycle's name, the latest teaser and previous trademark activity strongly point towards the highly anticipated Yamaha R2.

Customers can reserve the upcoming motorcycle through Yamaha India's official website by paying a ₹10,000 booking amount. The company has also confirmed that the final price, specifications and variant details will be announced at the time of launch.

Yamaha R2 Name Still Under Wraps

The latest teaser carries Yamaha's familiar R-series branding alongside the message “We R On Our Way” and the hashtag #RInstinct. Interestingly, the design of the logo appears to contain a subtle shape resembling the number “2”, potentially offering a hidden clue about the motorcycle's identity.

Yamaha has yet to officially confirm the R2 name, but the evidence surrounding the upcoming model continues to build. The R2 trademark has reportedly been filed across several markets, including India, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and the Philippines.

The motorcycle is expected to sit between the Yamaha R15 and R3, giving the brand a new option in the entry-level performance motorcycle segment.

Bookings Open for ₹10,000

The booking process is already live, with buyers required to pay ₹10,000 as a token amount. Customers who reserve the motorcycle will receive priority delivery, while the booking amount is refundable if they decide not to complete the purchase.

The booking platform does not currently reveal the final variant or technical specifications, keeping the major details reserved for the official launch.

Expected to Be Made in India

The upcoming Yamaha R2 is expected to be locally manufactured at the company's Chennai production facility. Local assembly could help Yamaha keep costs under control and position the motorcycle competitively against models such as the KTM RC 200, Hero Karizma XMR and Bajaj Pulsar RS200.

The R2 is also expected to share several components and engineering elements with the R15 V4. These could include a Deltabox-style chassis, USD front forks, rear monoshock and dual-channel ABS.

Expected Engine and Features

Yamaha has not released the R2's engine specifications yet. However, reports suggest that the motorcycle could use a larger development of Yamaha's liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine, with expected output of around 25hp and 20Nm.

Potential equipment could include:

  • Variable Valve Actuation (VVA)
  • Traction control
  • Assist and slipper clutch
  • Quickshifter
  • Full-colour TFT instrument display
  • Y-Connect smartphone connectivity
  • Call and message notifications
  • Ride statistics
  • Maintenance reminders
  • Last parked location

Expected Yamaha R2 Price

The Yamaha R2 is expected to be positioned in the ₹2 lakh–₹2.5 lakh price range, although the final figure will only be confirmed at launch.

If Yamaha manages to combine local production, R-series styling and stronger performance at this price point, the R2 could become an interesting middle ground for buyers who find the R15 too small but the R3 too expensive.
