MG Hector Hawk Set for August 2026 India Launch With PHEV and EV Powertrains

MG Motor India is preparing to expand the Hector range with the introduction of the Hector Hawk, a new top-end variant expected to arrive in India on August 26, 2026. Unlike the existing Hector, the upcoming model is expected to move beyond conventional petrol power by offering both plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and fully electric powertrains.

The Hector Hawk is understood to be based on the Wuling Starlight 560, a global SUV developed by the SAIC-GM-Wuling partnership. For India, the model will be positioned under the Hector nameplate while adopting MG's newer design and technology direction.

New SUV Architecture and Larger Dimensions

The Hector Hawk is expected to use MG's ADAPT architecture, with the platform supporting both its hybrid and electric versions.

The global Starlight 560 measures 4,745mm in length, 1,850mm in width and 1,755mm in height. Its wheelbase stands at around 2,810mm, which is approximately 60mm longer than the current Hector.

The additional wheelbase could translate into a roomier cabin, particularly for passengers in the second row, while also helping the SUV maintain a more spacious family-oriented layout.

Premium Cabin With Modern Technology

The interior of the Hector Hawk is expected to receive a substantial technology upgrade. The global model features a modern dashboard layout centred around a large touchscreen infotainment system and a digital driver's display.

Plug-In Hybrid and Electric Versions Expected

The biggest change is expected to come under the bonnet. The Hector Hawk is planned to be offered with two electrified powertrain choices: a plug-in hybrid and a fully electric version.

The global PHEV version uses a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, while the EV is equipped with a 20.5kWh battery pack.

For the global model, the PHEV setup is rated at around 194hp and 230Nm, while the electric version produces approximately 136hp and 200Nm.

The global PHEV is claimed to offer up to 100km of electric-only driving, with its combined range reportedly reaching around 1,100km. Meanwhile, the EV is claimed to deliver up to 100km of range on a single charge based on the stated specifications.

However, MG has yet to confirm the final India-spec powertrain specifications, so the output, battery capacity and range could differ from the international model.

Where the Hector Hawk Will Fit in India

The Hector Hawk PHEV could give MG a relatively unique position in the Indian market, as mainstream plug-in hybrid SUVs remain extremely limited.

The hybrid version is expected to appeal to buyers looking for the practicality of a petrol-powered SUV along with the ability to drive short distances using electric power alone. The fully electric version, meanwhile, will enter the increasingly competitive family EV segment.

With its larger dimensions, premium cabin and electrified powertrain choices, the Hector Hawk could become an important new product for MG Motor India when it arrives later this month.
