Maruti Suzuki Chairman RC Bhargava Calls for Faster Reforms, Sees Strong Growth in Car Market

New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki India Chairman RC Bhargava has called on the central and state governments to accelerate the pace of economic reforms and take stronger measures to improve the ease of doing business in India. He also urged political parties across the spectrum to support reforms and initiatives aimed at creating greater wealth and economic opportunities.

In his message to shareholders in Maruti Suzuki's Annual Report for 2025-26, Bhargava stressed the importance of ensuring that the additional resources generated through economic growth are used to build a more equitable and just society. He said both the government and the Opposition have a role to play in ensuring that the benefits of economic progress reach a wider section of the population.

Bhargava also shared an optimistic outlook for India's passenger vehicle industry. He noted that the car market has shown stronger growth following the implementation of GST 2.0, which could lead Maruti Suzuki to revise its longer-term industry projections.

According to the current estimate, Bhargava expects India's car industry to expand to around 6.1 million to 6.3 million units annually by FY2030-31. He further expects the small-car segment to grow at a significantly faster pace than it did during the previous five years.

The Maruti Suzuki chairman also reiterated the company's view that India will need to adopt a multi-technology approach to achieve its net-zero ambitions. He highlighted biogas as one of the potential solutions, given India's ability to produce it in substantial quantities using locally available resources.

Despite the negative impact of the Iran-US conflict on several global economies, Bhargava noted that the Indian economy continues to demonstrate resilience. He described India as the fastest-growing economy among the world's larger economies, highlighting the country's relatively strong economic performance amid global uncertainties.
