Hyundai is preparing the next-generation Tucson, internally known as the NX5, which is expected to make its global debut later this year. The new-generation SUV is likely to arrive in India in 2027. Ahead of its official unveiling, an interior display image has unintentionally provided an early glimpse of the SUV's redesigned front fascia.
The design visible on the screen appears consistent with earlier test vehicles and unofficial design previews, suggesting that Hyundai is moving the Tucson towards a considerably sharper and more upright appearance.
New Hyundai Tucson Design
The fifth-generation Tucson marks a major styling shift for Hyundai. The company is moving away from its previous 'Sensuous Sportiness' design language and adopting the newer 'Art of Steel' philosophy.
The front-end design features a more upright stance with prominent geometric surfaces and sharply defined lines. A slim LED strip appears to run across the upper section of the fascia, connecting the vertically arranged daytime running lights to create a distinctive H-shaped lighting signature.
The SUV is expected to feature a clamshell-style bonnet that complements its boxier proportions. The overall front-end treatment has similarities with Hyundai's latest larger SUVs, while the main headlamps are positioned lower on the bumper.
The new Tucson is also expected to receive squared-off wheel arches with prominent body cladding, giving it a more rugged appearance. Earlier test vehicles have shown newly designed alloy wheels and redesigned ORVMs finished in a dual-tone treatment.
Hyundai appears to be replacing the rounded bodywork and flowing roofline of the current Tucson with sharper character lines and more geometric sheet-metal surfaces. A relatively flat roof profile is expected to further strengthen the SUV's sporty and upright stance.
Technology-Focused Interior
Inside, the new Tucson is expected to introduce Hyundai's Pleos technology suite, combining new hardware and software features.
One of the biggest highlights is expected to be a large 17-inch central touchscreen, powered by an Android-based operating system. The system is designed to bring multiple vehicle and infotainment functions together while providing a smartphone-like user experience.
A 9.9-inch digital instrument cluster is also expected to display key information such as vehicle speed and navigation directions.
Despite the increasing use of screens, Hyundai is expected to retain physical buttons and rotary controls for important functions such as audio and climate control. This approach should make frequently used functions easier to operate while driving.
The SUV could also feature an AI-powered voice assistant capable of understanding natural-language commands, allowing occupants to control several functions without manually interacting with the touchscreen.
Hybrid-Powered Tucson Expected
Electrification is expected to play a much bigger role in the next-generation Tucson. Hyundai is reportedly preparing both strong-hybrid and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions.
The hybrid models are expected to use Hyundai's next-generation TMED-II hybrid architecture, potentially pairing a 1.6-litre petrol engine with an electric motor and battery pack.
The PHEV version is expected to feature a more powerful electric motor and a larger battery, potentially offering an electric-only driving range of around 100 km.
There is also speculation about a high-performance N variant, which could feature a 300+ hp all-wheel-drive turbo-hybrid setup.
For the Indian market, the existing 2.0-litre diesel engine could be discontinued with the arrival of the new-generation model as Hyundai places greater emphasis on electrified powertrains.
The next Tucson is also expected to offer advanced driver assistance technology with Level 2.5 autonomous driving capability.
More Rugged XRT Pro Variant
Hyundai is also testing an XRT Pro version of the next-generation Tucson. This variant is expected to focus on enhanced off-road capability alongside a more aggressive exterior design.
The XRT Pro could feature increased ground clearance and a raised suspension setup. Other expected upgrades include functional red tow hooks, stronger roof rails and all-terrain tyres designed for improved performance on rough surfaces.
With its sharper styling, technology-rich cabin, hybrid powertrain options and more capable variants, the fifth-generation Tucson is expected to represent a significant evolution over the current model when it reaches global markets and India.
