Mahindra & Mahindra has officially opened bookings for the new Mahindra XUV 3XO ZNG in India. The factory-fitted CNG version of the popular compact SUV was launched at an introductory starting price of ₹9.99 lakh (ex-showroom), with the top variant priced at ₹12.27 lakh. Bookings and customer deliveries began on October 20, 2026, while test drives commenced on October 15.

The new model is aimed at buyers who want the practicality and features of a compact SUV while potentially reducing everyday fuel expenses. Unlike many conventional CNG cars that use naturally aspirated petrol engines, the XUV 3XO ZNG combines a turbocharged 1.2-litre petrol engine with a factory-fitted CNG system.

Mahindra is offering the new SUV in four variants, with a six-speed manual gearbox and a twin-cylinder CNG storage arrangement designed to preserve usable luggage space.

Engine, Performance and Claimed Mileage

The Mahindra XUV 3XO ZNG uses a 1.2-litre turbocharged multipoint fuel-injection petrol engine adapted to run on both petrol and CNG. The manufacturer claims an output of 82 kW (approximately 111 PS) and 200 Nm of torque in both fuel modes. The engine is paired with a six-speed manual transmission.

One of the main highlights is its claimed fuel efficiency of 24.7 km/kg in CNG mode. This figure may appeal to customers who cover long distances and want to manage fuel costs.

Actual mileage will depend on traffic conditions, driving style, passenger load, air-conditioning use, road quality and vehicle maintenance. Buyers should also consider the availability of CNG stations along their regular routes.

The SUV can operate on petrol and CNG, providing flexibility when one fuel is unavailable. Its dual-fuel arrangement is intended to combine the lower running costs associated with CNG with the convenience of a petrol-powered vehicle.

Twin-Cylinder Setup and Boot Space

A major practical feature of the XUV 3XO ZNG is its twin-cylinder CNG layout. Rather than using a conventional single large cylinder that occupies much of the luggage compartment, the system places two cylinders beneath the boot floor.

Mahindra's packaging approach helps retain a flat loading floor and 270 litres of usable boot space. The spare wheel is positioned underneath the vehicle, according to published specifications.

This arrangement is important for buyers who want a CNG vehicle without sacrificing all the luggage capacity typically associated with an SUV. However, customers carrying large suitcases or travelling with a full family should check the boot space in person before making a decision.

Features and Safety Equipment

Mahindra XUV 3XO Bookings Open From May 15

The CNG version retains the XUV 3XO's familiar exterior design and cabin layout. Depending on the variant, available features include a touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument display, wireless smartphone connectivity, connected-car technology and a panoramic sunroof.

Safety is another important part of the package. Mahindra states that all XUV 3XO ZNG variants come with six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC) and ISOFIX child-seat mounts as standard. The model also includes dedicated CNG safety provisions, including gas-leak detection designed to switch the vehicle to petrol mode if a leak is detected.

The XUV 3XO's existing Bharat NCAP performance is also relevant to buyers, although a crash-test rating should not be interpreted as a separate test result for every powertrain configuration.
