India’s Top 6 Car Manufacturers Record Strong Growth in July 2026; Combined Sales Cross 4.3 Lakh Units

India’s passenger vehicle market continued its positive growth momentum in July 2026, with the country’s six leading automobile manufacturers contributing more than 93% of total industry sales. Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Mahindra, Hyundai, Toyota, and Kia collectively registered sales of 4,31,788 units during the month, recording strong year-on-year (YoY) growth along with healthy sequential improvement.

The dominance of these six major carmakers highlights their strong position in India’s passenger vehicle industry. Other manufacturers collectively contributed a smaller share, with most brands averaging below 10,000 monthly sales, indicating the continued concentration of market share among the leading players.

Maruti Suzuki Maintains Dominant Market Leadership

Maruti Suzuki continued to lead India’s passenger vehicle market in July 2026, recording sales of 1,96,203 units. The company reported a strong 42.41% YoY growth compared to 1,37,778 units sold in July 2025.

The automaker added nearly 58,500 units compared to the previous year and secured a massive 45.44% share among the top six manufacturers. Strong demand across its hatchback, SUV, and MPV portfolio helped Maruti Suzuki maintain its leadership position.

Tata Motors Delivers Highest Growth Among Major Automakers

Tata Motors secured the second position with sales of 62,611 units in July 2026. The company recorded the highest YoY growth among major volume manufacturers, achieving a 58.42% increase compared to the same month last year.

Tata Motors gained 23,090 additional units year-on-year, while month-on-month growth remained stable with a 0.86% increase over June 2026.

The company continued its strong performance in the electric vehicle segment, retaining the top position in India’s EV market. Tata Motors’ EV market share improved significantly, increasing from around 38% in March 2026 to nearly 43% in July 2026, supported by rising demand for its electric vehicle lineup.

Mahindra Retains Third Position With Strong SUV Demand

Mahindra ranked third among India’s top car manufacturers with sales of 60,048 units in July 2026. The company recorded a healthy 20.41% YoY growth, supported by strong customer demand for its SUV models.

However, Mahindra witnessed a marginal 0.57% decline compared to June 2026, making it the only manufacturer among the top six to register a month-on-month drop.

Hyundai Records Strong Monthly Improvement

Hyundai secured the fourth position with sales of 54,210 units during July 2026. The company posted a 23.28% YoY growth compared to July 2025.

On a monthly basis, Hyundai delivered one of the strongest performances among the top six manufacturers, with sales increasing by 36.77% compared to June 2026. Strong demand for Hyundai’s SUV range and premium models contributed to its improved performance.

Toyota and Kia Complete the Top Six Rankings

Toyota maintained the fifth position with sales of 30,516 units in July 2026. The company registered a 4.65% YoY growth and improved its monthly performance by 7.30% compared to June 2026.

Kia secured the sixth position with sales of 28,200 units, recording impressive growth of 27.40% YoY. The company also achieved a 14.86% month-on-month improvement, supported by steady demand for its SUV-focused product portfolio.

Top 6 OEMs Witness Strong Overall Growth

The combined sales of the six leading manufacturers increased by 33.91% year-on-year and 19.18% month-on-month, highlighting the continued strength of India’s passenger vehicle market.

Growing SUV demand, rising electric vehicle adoption, and improving consumer confidence played a key role in driving sales growth during July 2026.


FY27 YTD Performance (April–July 2026)

During the April–July FY27 period, the top six passenger vehicle manufacturers collectively sold 16.19 lakh units, registering a 27.42% growth compared to 12.71 lakh units sold during the same period last year.

Maruti Suzuki further strengthened its market leadership with cumulative sales of 7,21,431 units, achieving 35.77% YoY growth and accounting for more than 44% share among the top six manufacturers.

Tata Motors ranked second with cumulative sales of 2,42,777 units, recording the strongest growth among the leading manufacturers at 48.61%.

Mahindra followed closely with 2,34,793 units, registering 16.27% growth during the four-month period.

Hyundai reported cumulative sales of 1,93,584 units, growing 9.85%, while Toyota recorded 1,19,690 units with 9.08% growth.

Kia crossed the one lakh sales milestone with cumulative sales of 1,07,624 units, achieving a healthy 21.34% increase compared to the same period last year
