India’s two-wheeler market recorded strong growth in August 2026, with major manufacturers reporting higher sales compared with the same month last year. The month also brought a major change in the industry rankings, as TVS Motor Company moved ahead of Honda and Hero MotoCorp to become the top two-wheeler manufacturer by monthly dispatches.
TVS posted its highest-ever monthly two-wheeler sales in August, while Bajaj Auto recorded the strongest year-on-year growth among the six major manufacturers. Royal Enfield and Suzuki also reported positive growth during the month.
The six manufacturers — TVS Motor, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India, Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto, Royal Enfield and Suzuki Motorcycle India — together recorded more than 24 lakh two-wheelers in total sales and exports during August.
TVS emerged as the biggest highlight of the month with 5,91,437 units, followed by Honda with 5,79,162 units and Hero MotoCorp with 5,68,398 units. Bajaj recorded 4,43,748 units, while Royal Enfield and Suzuki crossed the 1-lakh mark.

TVS Motor Company delivered the biggest performance in August 2026. The company recorded 5,91,437 two-wheelers, registering approximately 21% year-on-year growth.
This was TVS Motor’s highest-ever monthly two-wheeler sales figure and helped the company overtake both Honda and Hero MotoCorp.
TVS also reported strong growth in its electric two-wheeler business, with EV sales increasing by 137% to 59,453 units. Exports stood at 1,57,641 units, representing around 29% growth over the previous year.
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India recorded 5,79,162 units in August 2026, marking an 8% year-on-year increase.
Domestic two-wheeler sales reached 5,17,329 units, also growing 8%. Honda’s exports increased by around 15% to 61,833 units.
Although Honda finished behind TVS in August, the company maintained a strong overall sales performance and remained ahead of Hero MotoCorp for the month.
Hero MotoCorp registered 5,68,398 units in August 2026, compared with 5,53,727 units in August 2025. This translated into approximately 2.65% year-on-year growth.
The company’s domestic ICE two-wheeler dispatches stood at 5,16,747 units. Hero’s Vida electric two-wheeler business also showed strong momentum, recording 25,558 units, up around 38%.
However, Hero’s exports declined during the month, limiting the company’s overall growth rate.
Bajaj Auto delivered the strongest percentage growth among the six manufacturers listed here.
The company dispatched 4,43,748 two-wheelers in August 2026, up around 30% from 3,41,887 units a year earlier.
Bajaj’s domestic sales increased by approximately 10% to 2,01,898 units, while exports jumped 53% to 2,41,850 units. The strong export performance continues to play an important role in Bajaj’s overall two-wheeler volumes.
Royal Enfield recorded 1,26,479 motorcycles in August 2026, registering 11% year-on-year growth.
Domestic sales increased to 1,14,204 units, while exports stood at 12,275 units. The company continues to benefit from demand for its popular 350cc motorcycle range and its expanding premium motorcycle portfolio.
Suzuki Motorcycle India reported 1,20,611 units in August 2026, up around 6% year-on-year from 1,13,936 units in August 2025.
Domestic sales increased approximately 13% to 1,03,118 units. Exports, however, declined to 17,493 units from 22,307 units in the corresponding period last year.
The most important development in August was the change at the top of the two-wheeler industry.
TVS recorded approximately 12,275 more units than Honda and around 23,039 more units than Hero MotoCorp. Its combination of domestic sales, exports and rapidly growing electric two-wheeler volumes helped it secure the No.1 position for the month.

The August sales numbers indicate strong momentum across India's two-wheeler industry ahead of the important festive period.
TVS enters the festive season with significant momentum after achieving its highest monthly volume and strong EV growth. Bajaj's export performance also remains a major strength, while Honda and Hero continue to compete closely at the top of the market.
With festive demand expected to influence September and October sales, the competition among the leading manufacturers is likely to remain intense.
