The next-generation Toyota Fortuner has once again been spotted during testing, giving fresh clues about the upcoming SUV’s exterior design. The latest spy shots show production-spec tail-light elements, while the new-generation Fortuner is expected to arrive in India around late 2026 or early 2027.

The test vehicle was spotted in Thailand and remains heavily camouflaged. However, the latest sightings indicate that development of the new Fortuner is progressing. Toyota is expected to introduce significant styling and technology updates while retaining the SUV’s rugged, body-on-frame character.

New Toyota Fortuner Design

The upcoming Fortuner is expected to feature a more upright and squared-off design. Spy images suggest a redesigned front fascia with a larger grille, slimmer LED lighting elements and a split-headlamp layout inspired by Toyota’s latest global SUV design language.

At the rear, the new Fortuner appears to get slimmer tail-lights with a more modern design. The production-spec lighting elements seen on the test vehicle provide an indication of the final rear styling, although some design details remain hidden under camouflage.

The SUV is expected to retain its familiar high-riding stance and ladder-frame construction while adopting sharper exterior detailing.

Interior and Technology

While the cabin has not been fully revealed, the new Fortuner is expected to receive a substantial technology upgrade. Reports indicate that Toyota could introduce a larger infotainment display, a digital driver’s display, improved connectivity and additional premium features.

The test vehicle has also been seen with hardware associated with advanced driver-assistance systems. Toyota Safety Sense and Level 2 driver-assistance features are expected to be offered, depending on the market and variant.

Engine and Platform

The next-generation Fortuner is expected to use an updated version of Toyota’s IMV ladder-frame platform, which is also associated with the latest-generation Hilux.

For India, the SUV is expected to continue with petrol and diesel powertrain options. The familiar 2.7-litre petrol and 2.8-litre diesel engines are expected to remain, while the diesel could continue with 48V mild-hybrid technology. A six-speed manual and automatic transmission options are also expected, with four-wheel drive likely to remain available on selected variants.

2027 Toyota Fortuner India Launch

Toyota has not officially confirmed the India launch date of the new-generation Fortuner. However, multiple reports currently point towards an India introduction in late 2026 or early 2027, with 2027 being a likely timeframe.
