Mahindra has introduced the Thar OG, the latest generation of its three-door lifestyle SUV, with a significant list of updates over the previous Thar. While the iconic boxy design and off-road-focused character remain intact, Mahindra has made changes to the platform, suspension, steering, powertrains, safety equipment and cabin features.
The new Mahindra Thar OG has been launched in India at an introductory price of ₹10.32 lakh, ex-showroom, with prices going up to ₹18.99 lakh for the top-spec version. Deliveries are scheduled to begin from October 11, 2026.

One of the biggest changes is underneath the body. The Thar OG moves to Mahindra's M_Glyde 4G platform, which is also associated with the Thar Roxx. The SUV receives a new Pentalink rear suspension with Watts Link, while DAVINCI damping technology is standard across the range. The top-spec ZXT additionally gets Frequency Dependent Damping technology.
These changes are aimed at improving ride comfort and stability while retaining the Thar's off-road capability.
The Thar OG continues with three engine choices, but the larger petrol and diesel engines receive higher outputs compared with the outgoing model.

The 2.2-litre diesel now produces 152 PS and 330 Nm, while the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol develops 162 PS and 330 Nm. Both engines are available with manual and automatic transmissions, depending on the variant.
Mahindra has also made the Thar more feature-rich for everyday use. Higher variants get a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, cruise control, wireless charging and USB Type-C connectivity.
The cabin receives Truffle Brown leatherette upholstery on the ZXT variant, along with a second-row armrest and integrated cupholders. The SUV also gets rear AC vents, push-button start/stop and a height-adjustable driver's seat.
Safety equipment has also been expanded, particularly on the top-spec ZXT. It gets six airbags, all-wheel disc brakes, front and rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera and tyre pressure monitoring system.
Electronic Stability Program, hill-hold assistance, hill-descent control and rollover mitigation are also part of the Thar OG's safety package.
The Thar OG is available in AXT, LXT and ZXT trims. The newly introduced ZXT sits at the top of the range and adds several premium features.
The top variant gets 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, LED headlamps, LED DRLs and LED fog lamps with cornering functionality. The lower variants are offered with smaller wheel and lighting configurations.
The new Mahindra Thar OG is priced from ₹10.32 lakh to ₹18.99 lakh (ex-showroom) as introductory pricing. The range continues to offer both RWD and 4WD configurations, depending on the engine and variant.
Overall, the Thar OG retains the familiar three-door design and off-road identity of the Thar while introducing substantial mechanical, safety, technology and comfort upgrades over the outgoing model
