Genesis GV90 Unveiled as Flagship Electric SUV With Coach Doors and 123.5 kWh Battery

Genesis has officially unveiled the GV90, its largest and most luxurious SUV to date. Positioned above the GV80, the new electric flagship is designed to compete in the ultra-luxury SUV segment against models such as the Range Rover, Mercedes-Maybach GLS and Rolls-Royce Cullinan.

Based on the Genesis Neolun Concept showcased in 2024, the production-spec GV90 retains several of the concept's standout design and technology features. Among the most notable is the availability of coach-style doors without a conventional fixed B-pillar, giving the flagship SUV a distinctive and lounge-like character.

Genesis GV90 Neolun Gets Coach Doors

Genesis will offer the GV90 in standard and more luxurious Neolun configurations. While the standard model uses conventional doors, the GV90 Neolun features the brand's Neolun Arch Gate door arrangement.

The front and rear doors open in opposite directions, creating a wide entrance for passengers. There is no conventional fixed B-pillar between the two doors. Genesis describes this as the world's first independently opening and closing hidden B-pillar coach-door system.

Despite the absence of a traditional B-pillar, Genesis has incorporated high-strength dual steel beams into the doors to maintain structural rigidity. A concealed roll-cage structure is also used, with the frame claimed to be 1.5 times thicker than that of conventional vehicles.

The luxury-focused cabin further benefits from motorised front seats that can rotate by 180 degrees when the vehicle is stationary, allowing front passengers to face those seated in the second row.

GV90 Gets Hyundai Motor Group's Largest EV Battery

The Genesis GV90 is built on a new eMP electric vehicle platform developed specifically for the flagship SUV.

The SUV measures 5,285 mm in length, 2,030 mm in width and 1,815-1,825 mm in height, depending on the wheel specification. Its wheelbase measures 3,245 mm.

For comparison, the GV90 is 225 mm longer than the Hyundai Ioniq 9, while its wheelbase is 115 mm longer.

Power comes from a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup. The front electric motor produces 240 kW and 350 Nm, while the rear motor generates 250 kW and 450 Nm. Combined output stands at 490 kW (657 bhp) and 800 Nm.

The SUV also gets electronic limited-slip differentials on both axles, multi-chamber air suspension, electronically controlled dampers and rear-wheel steering.

A large 123.5 kWh battery pack supplies energy to the motors, making it the largest battery fitted to a Hyundai Motor Group EV so far. Genesis estimates a range of around 500 km for the seven-seat version based on its internal testing.

With a 350 kW DC fast charger, the battery can reportedly be charged from 10% to 80% in approximately 22 minutes.

High-Tech Cabin Gets Pop-Up OLED Display

Technology is a major part of the GV90's luxury proposition. The dashboard features a 23.6-inch OLED Cinematic Display that integrates the instrument cluster and infotainment functions.

When the SUV is parked, the display can rise by 90 mm and transform into a larger 24.6-inch entertainment screen, creating a cinema-like experience for occupants.

Other technology and comfort features include:

  • 25-inch head-up display
  • Pleos Connect infotainment system
  • Generative AI assistant
  • 25-speaker Bang & Olufsen Premier 3D audio system
  • Dolby Atmos support
  • Massaging seats
  • Advanced cabin sound insulation

Genesis has also paid considerable attention to NVH levels. The SUV uses acoustic glass more than 5 mm thick across the windows, along with extensive sound-deadening materials to create a quieter cabin.

Four-Seat GV90 Neolun Executive Suite

At the top of the range is the GV90 Neolun Executive Suite, which adopts a four-seat layout and targets chauffeur-driven luxury SUV buyers.

The premium version features a Smart Vision Roof using PDLC technology, allowing transparency to be adjusted independently across six different zones.

A limited GV90 Neolun First Edition adds exclusive exterior and interior treatments. The second row receives real wood flooring with radiant heating inspired by Korea's traditional ondol underfloor heating system.

Other Executive Suite features include a refrigerator, integrated tables, semi-aniline leather upholstery and a partition separating the passenger compartment from the luggage area.

Genesis GV90 Introduces Roof Airbag Technology

Safety is another major focus of the new flagship. The GV90 comes equipped with 12 airbags, including what Genesis describes as the world's first roof airbag.

In the event of a severe rollover, the roof-mounted airbag is designed to deploy across the fixed glass roof to provide additional protection for occupants.

The curtain airbags extend to the third row, while airbags integrated into the seat cushions are designed to help reduce the risk of submarining during a crash.

Genesis has also introduced enhanced battery protection measures, including Thermal Runaway Protection technology, aimed at improving EV safety.

Genesis Brand Confirmed for India in 2027

The GV90's global debut comes ahead of an important development for the Indian luxury car market. Hyundai India has confirmed that Genesis will enter India in 2027, marking the Korean luxury brand's official arrival in the country.

The company has yet to reveal its India-specific product strategy. However, the GV80 SUV and GV80 Coupe are expected to be among the models that could be considered for the Indian market. These vehicles would allow Genesis to compete in the premium luxury SUV segment currently dominated by established European brands such as Mercedes-Benz and BMW.

Whether the considerably larger GV90 will also be introduced in India remains uncertain. Nevertheless, the flagship electric SUV showcases Genesis' ambitions in the global luxury market and provides an early indication of the technology, comfort and design direction the brand could bring to India ahead of its 2027 entry.
