Nissan car is preparing a new three-row SUV for the Indian market, and the upcoming model based on the Tekton has once again been spotted testing on Indian roads. The latest spy sightings provide more clues about the upcoming Nissan Tekton 7-seater, including its stretched body, redesigned rear styling, larger wheels and advanced driver-assistance technology.
The new SUV is expected to become Nissan's more premium family SUV cars offering in India when it arrives in 2027. While it shares its underpinnings with the five-seat Tekton, Nissan has indicated that the three-row model will have its own identity rather than simply being a longer version of the existing SUV.
The latest test vehicle was heavily camouflaged, but its overall proportions clearly reveal the changes made to accommodate a third row.
The upcoming SUV gets a substantially longer rear section compared with the five-seat Tekton. The additional length is particularly noticeable behind the rear wheels, where the larger rear quarter section is expected to create more room for the third row and luggage area.
The test mule also features a revised rear-end design. Nissan appears to be moving away from the C-shaped lighting signature of the five-seat Tekton, with the seven-seat version expected to receive a different tail-light arrangement and a wider connecting light element.
At the front, the SUV continues to feature the familiar inverted-L-shaped LED daytime running lights, although the camouflage hides several design changes. A revised grille and bumper are expected to help distinguish the three-row model from its five-seat sibling.
One of the most interesting aspects of the latest test vehicle is the presence of hardware associated with advanced driver-assistance systems.
The upcoming three-row SUV is expected to offer Level 2 ADAS, building on the technology already available with higher variants of the five-seat Tekton.
The system could include functions such as:
Adaptive cruise control
Autonomous emergency braking
Lane departure warning
Lane keeping assistance
Blind-spot monitoring
Traffic sign recognition
Driver attention monitoring
High-beam assistance
Distance warning
The exact ADAS feature list and hardware configuration for the seven-seat model will be confirmed closer to its launch.
The existing Tekton already offers Level 2 ADAS on its higher variants, with up to 15 or 17 functions depending on the version.
The test vehicle has also been spotted with 18-inch alloy wheels, paired with 225/60-section tyres.
The larger wheel and tyre combination should give the upcoming SUV a more substantial stance while also complementing its increased body dimensions.
The 225-section width could also provide a good balance between road grip, ride comfort and highway stability.
However, since this is a test vehicle, the exact wheel and tyre combinations offered on production-spec variants could differ.
The most significant change compared with the five-seat Tekton is the extended body.
The seven-seat SUV is expected to feature a three-row cabin, giving buyers the option of carrying up to seven occupants.
The third row is expected to follow a 5+2 seating arrangement, although the final configuration and available space will only become clear once Nissan reveals the production version.
The longer rear overhang should provide additional room for the third row without requiring major changes to the platform.
Reports suggest that the wheelbase could remain close to the five-seat Tekton's 2,657 mm, with much of the additional length being added behind the rear axle.
The rear of the seven-seat SUV appears to have received more substantial styling changes.
Instead of directly carrying over the five-seat Tekton's C-shaped tail-lamp signature, the three-row model is expected to use a boomerang-style lighting design.
A connecting LED element between the tail-lamps also appears thicker on the test vehicle.
The revised lighting is likely to be one of the key elements used to distinguish the seven-seater from the standard Tekton.
The rear windscreen also appears flatter, while the additional body length gives the SUV a more substantial profile.
Nissan has not yet revealed the complete interior of the seven-seat SUV.
However, the larger model is expected to borrow several technologies and features from the five-seat Tekton while adding equipment specifically aimed at family buyers.
Expected highlights could include:
Three-row seating
Panoramic sunroof
Powered and ventilated front seats
Dual digital displays
Automatic climate control
360-degree camera
Level 2 ADAS
Connected-car technology
Premium upholstery
Multiple USB charging points
Nissan could also introduce additional second- and third-row convenience features to make the larger SUV more suitable for family use.
The powertrain details have not yet been officially confirmed for the seven-seat version.
However, the 1.3-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine used by the five-seat Tekton is considered a strong possibility for the larger SUV.
In the five-seat Tekton, this engine produces approximately 163 PS and 280 Nm, with transmission choices including a six-speed manual and six-speed wet dual-clutch automatic.
The larger seven-seat SUV is expected to favour the 1.3-litre engine because of its additional weight and larger body.
A smaller 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine may not be as suitable for the three-row version, although the final powertrain lineup remains subject to Nissan's confirmation.
The five-seat Tekton is currently offered with petrol powertrains rather than a hybrid system.
The upcoming seven-seat version is also not currently expected to receive a hybrid powertrain.
Nissan's focus appears to be on turbo-petrol engines combined with manual and automatic transmission options for the Indian market.
This could help the company maintain a competitive price point against established three-row SUVs.
The Nissan Tekton-based three-row SUV is confirmed for an India launch in 2027.
The model will become Nissan's second seven-seat SUV offering for India after the X-Trail, although the new vehicle is expected to have a much stronger focus on the mass-premium SUV segment.
The upcoming SUV is expected to compete with models such as the Mahindra XUV 7XO, Tata Safari and Hyundai Alcazar.
Nissan has not yet announced the final price of the seven-seat SUV.
However, estimates suggest that the new model could be positioned around the Rs 18 lakh to Rs 22 lakh ex-showroom range, depending on the variant and equipment.
The final pricing is likely to be announced closer to the launch.
The upcoming Nissan three-row SUV is shaping up to be considerably more than just a stretched version of the existing Tekton.
Its longer body, redesigned rear styling, three-row cabin, advanced safety technology and potentially powerful 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine could make it an important product for Nissan's India strategy.
The combination of 18-inch wheels, 225/60 tyres and Level 2 ADAS also suggests that Nissan is targeting the more premium end of the three-row SUV segment.
With its 2027 launch planned for India, more details regarding the production design, interior, engine options, dimensions and pricing are expected to emerge closer to its market debut.
