Mercedes-Benz cars has launched the all-electric GLC 400 4MATIC in India at an introductory price of ₹78.5 lakh (ex-showroom). The locally assembled luxury electric SUV gets a 94kWh battery, dual-motor all-wheel drive, 800Nm of torque and a claimed WLTP range of up to 711km.
The new GLC Electric has entered the Indian market in the GLC 400 4MATIC configuration. It is locally assembled at Mercedes-Benz's Chakan facility in Pune, Maharashtra, which helps the company position the electric SUV at a competitive price compared with fully imported luxury EVs.
The introductory price of ₹78.5 lakh makes it the entry point to Mercedes-Benz India's electric SUV range. The company has also reported receiving more than 1,000 bookings since bookings opened. According to the launch report, the model is sold out until March 2027, with deliveries scheduled to begin around Diwali.
The Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric has a distinctive design that separates it from the petrol-powered GLC. It is based on a dedicated electric vehicle platform and features a more futuristic appearance.
At the front, the illuminated grille is one of the biggest design highlights. It features individual lighting elements that create animated lighting patterns. The grille is accompanied by LED headlamps with distinctive three-pointed-star daytime running lights.
The India-spec model comes with the AMG Line styling package as standard. This includes sporty front and rear bumpers and 20-inch alloy wheels.
From the side, the SUV gets smooth body panels, flush-fitting door handles and a gently sloping roofline. At the rear, connected-looking LED tail lamps and a gloss-black panel give it a modern appearance.
The electric GLC is also larger than its internal-combustion counterpart. Its wheelbase measures 2,972mm, providing additional space for the cabin and electric vehicle packaging.
The cabin is one of the major highlights of the new Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric. It features a massive 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen that stretches across the dashboard.
Unlike a conventional dashboard with separate displays, the Hyperscreen integrates the driver's display, central infotainment screen and front passenger display beneath one continuous glass surface.
The system runs Mercedes-Benz's latest MBUX software and includes connected features and AI-enabled functions. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also available.
Other interior highlights include:
15-speaker Burmester 3D surround sound system.
Panoramic glass roof with switchable transparency.
Ambient lighting.
Electrically adjustable front seats with heating and massage functions.
Dual wireless charging pads.
Powered tailgate.
Power-folding rear seats.
Multiple interior colour options.
The panoramic roof features illuminated star elements and can change its transparency electronically. The cabin also gets premium materials, metallic finishes and wood-style trim.
For luggage, the GLC Electric offers a 570-litre boot and an additional 128-litre front storage compartment, known as a frunk.
The Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric is available in India with the GLC 400 4MATIC powertrain. It uses a 94kWh battery pack connected to two electric motors, with one motor positioned at each axle.
This dual-motor arrangement provides all-wheel-drive capability. The combined output is approximately 490hp and 800Nm of torque.
Mercedes-Benz claims that the electric SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in just 4.3 seconds. It also gets a two-speed transmission designed to balance acceleration and efficiency.
The GLC Electric offers a claimed WLTP driving range of up to 711km on a single charge. This is a certified test-cycle figure; actual range will depend on driving style, traffic, road conditions, temperature and use of climate control.
For buyers looking for a luxury electric SUV with strong performance and long-distance capability, the combination of a large battery and dual-motor AWD is a major attraction.
Charging capability is another important feature of the new GLC Electric.
The SUV supports DC fast charging at up to 330kW. Mercedes-Benz claims that the battery can charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 22 minutes when connected to a compatible high-power DC charger.
The company also claims that around 300km of driving range can be added in approximately 10 minutes under suitable charging conditions.
For home and regular charging, a 22kW AC charger is offered as standard. Mercedes-Benz also provides access to its MB.CHARGE Public network, which the company's India website lists as having more than 22,000 charging points.
Actual charging speeds depend on charger capacity, battery temperature, charging conditions and the vehicle's charging curve.
The GLC Electric comes with a range of driver assistance and convenience technologies.
Its safety equipment includes nine airbags, a 360-degree surround-view camera, parking assistance and Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems.
The SUV also gets multiple cameras and radar sensors to support its driver assistance functions. These systems are designed to help with driving and parking, although the driver remains responsible for controlling the vehicle.
The MBUX Hyperscreen, connected technology, ambient lighting and premium audio system further strengthen its luxury positioning.
One important India-specification detail is that the GLC Electric does not get rear-wheel steering or air suspension in India. It uses passive dampers instead, so buyers should not assume that every feature available in international versions is included in the Indian model.

The new GLC Electric enters India's premium electric SUV segment. Its combination of luxury, performance, technology and locally assembled production gives it a distinctive position.
The upcoming BMW iX3 is expected to become an important competitor when it reaches India. Other premium electric SUVs, including the Kia EV6 and Volvo EC40, may also be considered by buyers comparing luxury EV options, although their size, positioning and equipment differ.
Mercedes-Benz is using the GLC Electric to make its electric SUV range more accessible to buyers who want a premium brand without moving into the significantly more expensive flagship EV category.
The launch is significant because Mercedes-Benz has brought a global electric SUV to India through local assembly relatively soon after its international introduction.
Local production at the Chakan plant is an important part of its pricing strategy. The SUV also combines a long claimed WLTP range with high charging capability, a powerful dual-motor setup and a technology-focused interior.
However, buyers should consider the availability of high-power charging infrastructure in their regular driving areas. The claimed 711km range is based on the WLTP test cycle and should not be treated as a guaranteed real-world distance.
At ₹78.5 lakh, the GLC Electric targets customers looking for a premium electric SUV with strong performance, advanced technology and the Mercedes-Benz badge.
