Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate Spied Testing in India Again, Could It Finally Launch?

Mercedes-Benz appears to be evaluating the possibility of bringing its E-Class Estate to India, as the premium station wagon has been spotted testing once again. The latest sighting took place near the Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India (MBRDI) facility in Bengaluru, adding further speculation about the model’s potential arrival in the Indian market.

The E-Class Estate was previously spotted testing in India in December 2025. While Mercedes-Benz has not officially confirmed an India launch, the repeated testing suggests that the company could be assessing the model for local road conditions, regulations or other market requirements.

E-Class Estate Offers a Different Take on Luxury

Estate and Shooting Brake models combine the comfort and refinement of a sedan with the additional practicality of a station wagon. Although this body style remains popular in several international markets, Indian buyers have largely shifted toward SUVs.

Mercedes-Benz had previously experimented with this segment in India with the E-Class All-Terrain, which arrived in 2018. The latest E-Class Estate could represent another attempt by the German luxury carmaker to attract buyers looking for something more distinctive than a conventional SUV.

The latest test vehicle is heavily camouflaged, but its long roofline, extended rear section and estate-style silhouette clearly distinguish it from the standard E-Class sedan.

Styling Closely Related to the E-Class Sedan

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate follows the same overall design language as the E-Class sedan. The front section is expected to feature the brand’s familiar grille, sleek LED headlamps and signature Mercedes-Benz detailing.

The side profile gets a longer roofline and a more practical rear section, while the large tailgate improves access to the luggage compartment. Roof rails, chrome elements and sleek window detailing add to the premium appearance.

At the rear, the Estate is expected to feature LED tail-lamps with Mercedes-Benz’s distinctive lighting signature. Compared with the sedan, the biggest difference is the extended roof and larger, more versatile luggage area.

More Practical Cabin With Premium Features

Inside, the E-Class Estate is expected to share most of its cabin technology and luxury equipment with the sedan.

Depending on the final India-specification, the estate could feature Mercedes-Benz’s MBUX Superscreen, a fully digital instrument cluster, ambient lighting and premium upholstery. Features such as ventilated and massaging front seats, a powered tailgate and an advanced ADAS package could also be offered.

The model is also expected to retain Mercedes-Benz’s focus on passenger safety, with up to nine airbags potentially available depending on the market and trim level.

The larger rear section should also make the E-Class Estate considerably more practical than the sedan, particularly for buyers who regularly carry luggage or larger items.

Which Engine Options Could Come to India?

Mercedes-Benz has not confirmed the powertrain lineup for India yet. Internationally, the E-Class Estate is available with multiple powertrain options depending on the market.

For India, Mercedes could potentially consider a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol mild-hybrid or 2.0-litre diesel configuration. Given the niche positioning of an estate body style in India, the company could also consider offering a more premium six-cylinder powertrain, although there is currently no official confirmation.

The final engine selection is likely to depend on demand, positioning and the business case for introducing the model.

Launch Date Still Unconfirmed

Despite being spotted testing more than once, Mercedes-Benz has not confirmed an India launch date for the E-Class Estate. The test vehicle could be undergoing component validation, road testing or market evaluation rather than serving as a direct indication of a production launch.

If launched, the E-Class Estate would occupy a highly niche position in India. There are very few premium estate cars currently available, and the model would offer buyers an alternative to the growing number of luxury SUVs.

For Mercedes-Benz, the E-Class Estate could appeal to customers who want the comfort and technology of a luxury sedan combined with greater luggage space and a distinctive estate design.

For now, repeated testing is the strongest indication that Mercedes-Benz is at least evaluating the model for India, but an official launch announcement is still awaited.
