Tata Motors has officially teased its upcoming compact sedan, which will be called the Tata Aeris. The new sedan is scheduled to make its debut in India on September 25, 2026, and is expected to replace the Tata Tigor in the company's passenger vehicle lineup. The first teaser gives a glimpse of the updated exterior design, while detailed specifications and pricing are expected to be announced at the launch.
The first official teaser suggests that the Tata Aeris will receive significant styling changes over the outgoing Tigor. The front section appears sharper, with slim LED headlamps and a thin LED DRL strip positioned above them. The teaser also reveals LED fog lamps integrated into the lower bumper.
Tata has shown the sedan in a new purple/muted indigo exterior shade, adding a different colour option to its compact sedan range. The car is also expected to feature redesigned rear lighting and updated bumpers. Earlier design patent images indicated that the Aeris will retain the Tigor's distinctive notchback-style roofline while receiving several exterior changes.
Tata Motors has not yet revealed the complete cabin of the Aeris. However, reports suggest that the interior could receive a substantial update inspired by the latest Tata Tiago.
Expected equipment could include a larger touchscreen infotainment system, an updated instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, cruise control, wireless charging and rear AC vents. Six airbags could also be offered as standard, along with other safety features such as electronic stability control and tyre-pressure monitoring. These features remain subject to confirmation by Tata Motors.
The Tata Aeris is expected to continue with the Tigor's 1.2-litre, three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. The existing petrol unit produces around 86 PS and 113 Nm, while the CNG version produces around 76 PS and 97 Nm.
Both powertrain options are expected to be available with a 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT transmission. Tata is yet to officially confirm the final engine and transmission specifications for the Aeris.
