India's electric two-wheeler market achieved a significant milestone in July 2026, with monthly retail registrations crossing the 2 lakh mark for the first time. A total of 2,04,362 electric scooters and motorcycles were registered during the month, marking an impressive 88.32% year-on-year growth over 1,08,516 units recorded in July 2025.
The market also maintained its upward monthly trend. July registrations were 4.82% higher than June 2026, when 1,94,963 electric two-wheelers were registered.
The rapid increase in EV adoption pushed electric two-wheelers to a record 11.24% share of India's overall two-wheeler market. EV penetration stood at 10.59% in June and 7.65% in July 2025.
Despite the rise of electric mobility, petrol-powered two-wheelers remained the dominant choice, accounting for 88.67% of total two-wheeler registrations. CNG and LPG-powered two-wheelers continued to represent a very small portion of the market at 0.09%.

TVS Maintains the No. 1 Position
TVS Motor remained the largest electric two-wheeler manufacturer in India during July, registering 55,499 units.
The company's electric two-wheeler volumes surged 135.24% YoY, compared with 23,592 units in July 2025. It also recorded a 17.03% month-on-month increase from 47,421 units in June.
With more than 55,000 registrations, TVS contributed over 27% of India's total electric two-wheeler registrations during the month.
Bajaj Auto secured second place with 45,613 units, supported by continued demand for its Chetak electric scooter range.
Sales increased 121.89% YoY from 20,557 units in July 2025. Compared with June, Bajaj also recorded a 4.84% increase, improving from 43,507 units.
The strong performance helped Bajaj maintain a substantial lead over the third-ranked manufacturer.
Ather Energy registered 30,357 electric two-wheelers in July. Its annual growth stood at 70.22%, highlighting continued demand for its electric scooter portfolio.
However, the company experienced a modest 3.46% decline compared with June, when it registered 31,445 units.
Hero's Vida brand followed with 22,900 units. Vida recorded 111.35% YoY growth and also improved its monthly performance by 4.59%.
Ola Electric recorded 14,106 retail registrations in July. Unlike most major EV manufacturers, the company experienced a decline on both annual and monthly comparisons.
Its registrations fell 23.54% YoY and 13.19% MoM, indicating continued pressure on its retail performance.
Several smaller electric two-wheeler manufacturers recorded exceptionally strong percentage growth.
Greaves Ampere registered 10,125 units, up 137.34% YoY, although its monthly sales declined 7.43%.
River was one of the fastest-growing brands, with 5,954 units in July. Its registrations jumped 254.40% YoY and increased 33.83% MoM.
BGauss also recorded strong growth, reaching 5,518 units. Its sales increased 212.99% YoY and 38.82% compared with June.
The combined 'Others' category accounted for 14,290 units, up 49.81% YoY, although it declined 5.27% on a monthly basis.
Crossing 2 lakh electric two-wheeler registrations in a single month represents an important milestone for India's EV industry. More importantly, the segment's 11.24% market share shows that electric two-wheelers are steadily moving beyond their earlier niche status.
With the festive season approaching, manufacturers expanding their product line-ups and charging and retail infrastructure continuing to develop, electric two-wheeler adoption could gain further momentum.
Challenges such as financing availability, battery and raw-material costs, and supply-chain fluctuations remain relevant. However, the strong annual growth recorded in July indicates that electric two-wheelers are increasingly becoming a mainstream mobility option for Indian consumers.
