Domestic Sales Cross 6.36 Lakh

Honda's domestic business delivered the strongest contribution to the September result. The company sold 6,36,768 motorcycles and scooters in India, compared with 5,05,693 units in September 2025.

This translates into an increase of 1,31,075 units in a single year. Domestic volumes also improved substantially compared with August 2026, when Honda recorded 5,17,329 units.

The strong domestic performance comes as India's two-wheeler market enters the important festive buying period. Demand during this period can benefit from new model launches, customer offers and increased vehicle purchases.

Honda's broad portfolio across commuter motorcycles, scooters and premium motorcycles gives it coverage across several customer groups.

Exports Also Reach a New High

Honda's international business also contributed positively to the September performance.

The company exported 69,498 two-wheelers during the month, compared with 62,471 units in September 2025. This represents an 11.25% year-on-year increase.

September 2026 therefore became an important month for Honda not only because of its domestic performance but also because of the record export volume.

Exports accounted for nearly 10% of Honda's combined September sales, showing the increasing contribution of international markets to the company's overall business.

Strong Performance Across the First Half of FY2027

Honda's September result also strengthened its performance for the first half of FY2027.

Between April and September 2026, HMSI recorded total sales of 34,40,072 units, compared with 29,93,555 units during the corresponding period of FY2026. This represents growth of approximately 14.92%.

Domestic sales during the first half stood at 30,44,072 units, up 13.50% from 26,82,038 units a year earlier. Meanwhile, exports increased 27.12% to 3,96,000 units from 3,11,517 units.

Product Portfolio Remains a Key Strength

Honda has a wide two-wheeler portfolio covering commuter motorcycles, scooters and premium motorcycles.

The company's scooter range includes products such as the Activa 110, Activa 125 and Dio, while its motorcycle portfolio includes models such as the Shine, SP125, Unicorn, Hornet 2.0 and CB series.

The Activa family remains an important part of Honda's presence in India's scooter market, while models such as the Shine and SP125 address the commuter motorcycle segment.

Honda has also been expanding its premium product portfolio with larger motorcycles and new products aimed at customers looking for additional performance and technology.

New Products Could Add Further Momentum

Honda's product strategy is also moving into newer categories, including electric mobility and alternative-fuel technology.

The company has been expanding its electric scooter presence while also exploring technologies such as flex-fuel powertrains. These products could help Honda address changing customer preferences as India's two-wheeler market gradually evolves.

The company has also continued introducing and updating motorcycles across different segments, giving customers more choices beyond its traditional commuter range.

September Record Sets Up Strong Festive Season

Honda's September numbers arrive at an important point in India's automotive calendar. The festive season traditionally brings higher customer activity across the two-wheeler industry.

With domestic sales crossing 6.36 lakh units and overall sales exceeding 7 lakh units, Honda enters the festive period after recording a particularly strong monthly performance.

The company will now look to maintain this momentum through the remaining months of 2026. Continued domestic demand, export growth and new-product additions will be important factors for its performance.

What the September Numbers Indicate

Honda's September 2026 performance stands out because growth was recorded in both major areas of its business.

Domestic sales increased nearly 26%, while exports grew by more than 11%. At the same time, the company's first-half FY2027 sales crossed 34.40 lakh units.

The record monthly volume provides Honda with a strong starting point for the second half of the financial year, although monthly sales can vary depending on market conditions, inventory and seasonal demand.

For now, 7,06,266 units in September represents Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India's strongest monthly sales performance, with the domestic market accounting for the majority of the volume.
