Kia Sorento Hybrid to Get AWD in India, Live Gen AI Confirmed Ahead of September Launch

Kia India has revealed another important detail about its upcoming Sorento Hybrid, confirming that the premium SUV will be offered with an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system in the Indian market. The latest announcement comes ahead of its scheduled launch on 4 September 2026.

The Sorento will become Kia India's first model to introduce a strong-hybrid powertrain, while the addition of AWD is expected to give the three-row SUV a stronger combination of efficiency, performance and all-weather capability.

AWD and Strong Hybrid Confirmed

The latest teaser highlights three key technologies — strong hybrid power, AWD and Live Gen AI. While Kia had previously confirmed the Sorento's hybrid technology for India, the AWD confirmation provides a clearer picture of the SUV's India-spec configuration.

Internationally, the Sorento Hybrid is available with both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive layouts. Kia has opted for the AWD version for India, which should provide additional traction on slippery roads and greater confidence over challenging surfaces.

The SUV will also feature Live Gen AI, adding AI-powered conversational and connected functions to the cabin.

Kia's First Strong Hybrid for India

The Sorento is expected to introduce a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol strong-hybrid powertrain in India. The system is likely to develop around 241 PS of combined power and 380 Nm of torque, with power delivered through a six-speed automatic transmission.

Kia could also offer a 2.2-litre diesel engine alongside the hybrid. The diesel unit is expected to produce around 193 PS and 441 Nm, paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

This would give customers the choice between improved fuel efficiency from the hybrid setup and the long-distance capability associated with a diesel powertrain.

Premium Three-Row SUV With Advanced Features

The India-spec Sorento is expected to receive a feature-rich cabin designed to compete in the premium SUV space.

Based on information revealed through testing and previews, expected equipment includes:

• Second-row captain seats
• Six- and seven-seat configurations
• Curved panoramic display
• Rotary gear selector
• Terrain mode selector
• Ventilated front and second-row seats
• Bose premium audio system
• Wireless smartphone charging
• Panoramic sunroof
• 360-degree camera
• Level 2 ADAS technology

The combination of a spacious three-row layout and premium equipment could position the Sorento as a more upscale offering within Kia's Indian portfolio.

Expected Price and Launch

Kia is expected to manufacture the Sorento in India, helping the company maintain competitive pricing for the premium SUV segment.

The Kia Sorento is expected to be priced around ₹40 lakh, although the final price and variant-wise equipment will be announced closer to its launch.

With its strong-hybrid powertrain, AWD capability, connected technology and premium cabin, the Sorento could become an important addition to Kia's India lineup when it arrives on 4 September 2026.
