Tata Motors has launched its new compact sedan, the Tata Aeris, in India at an introductory starting price of Rs 5.29 lakh (ex-showroom). The new sedan replaces the Tata Tigor and brings a refreshed exterior, updated cabin, more features and petrol as well as CNG powertrain options.
The Tata Aeris has entered one of India's most competitive compact sedan segments, where it will go up against cars such as the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Hyundai Aura and Honda Amaze.
With a starting price of Rs 5.29 lakh, the Aeris is positioned below the current Maruti Suzuki Dzire, whose base price is around Rs 6.26 lakh. This means the Tata sedan has an ex-showroom starting-price advantage of approximately Rs 97,000 over the Dzire.
Tata Motors has introduced the Aeris in five main variants: Smart, Pure, Pure Plus, Creative and Accomplished.

The Aeris starts at Rs 5.29 lakh for the Smart petrol manual variant, while the CNG range starts at Rs 6.29 lakh. The top-spec Accomplished variant is priced at Rs 8.19 lakh for petrol and Rs 9.19 lakh for CNG.
The biggest talking point of the new Aeris is its starting price.
The Maruti Suzuki Dzire currently starts at around Rs 6.26 lakh ex-showroom for its LXi petrol manual variant. The Tata Aeris Smart petrol manual, meanwhile, starts at Rs 5.29 lakh.

Therefore, the Aeris is almost Rs 1 lakh cheaper than the Dzire at the entry level. The exact difference is approximately Rs 97,000 based on the currently listed ex-showroom prices.
The Aeris is not simply a name change. Tata Motors has given the compact sedan a substantially revised exterior design.
At the front, the sedan gets a slimmer grille, rectangular LED headlamps and a redesigned bumper. LED fog lamps are also available.
The side profile continues with the distinctive notchback-style roofline associated with the Tigor, while new alloy wheels and updated detailing give the car a fresher appearance.
At the rear, the Aeris receives a redesigned boot area, new bumper and updated LED lighting elements. The overall design is intended to make the sedan look more modern while retaining its compact dimensions.
The car is available in six exterior colours, including Dandeli Drizzle, Daytona Grey, Nitro Crimson, Dune Glow, Pure Grey and Pristine White. Dual-tone combinations are also offered.
Inside, the Tata Aeris gets a significantly updated cabin compared with the outgoing Tigor.
The dashboard layout takes inspiration from Tata's newer products, while the cabin features a two-spoke steering wheel, digital instrumentation and a larger touchscreen infotainment system.
The Aeris gets a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Other available equipment includes automatic climate control, cruise control, wireless charging, ventilated front seats, rear AC vents and a height-adjustable driver's seat.
Higher variants also get additional convenience and technology features, including a 360-degree camera and integrated dashcam functionality.
Safety is another major area where Tata has equipped the Aeris with a substantial feature list.
The sedan gets six airbags as standard, along with three-point seatbelts and reminders for all occupants. Rear parking sensors and ISOFIX child-seat mounts are also included.
Higher variants add features such as electronic stability control, hill-hold assist, tyre-pressure monitoring, rain-sensing wipers, rollover mitigation and a 360-degree camera with blind-view monitoring.
The Tata Aeris continues with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine.
The petrol version produces around 86 PS and 113 Nm, while the CNG version develops approximately 76 PS and 97 Nm.
Both petrol and CNG versions are available with a five-speed manual transmission and a five-speed AMT, giving buyers the choice between a conventional manual gearbox and an automated manual transmission.

The CNG version uses Tata's twin-cylinder setup, which helps preserve usable boot space. The Aeris offers a claimed 419-litre boot capacity.
Bookings for the new Tata Aeris have opened following its launch. The sedan will be sold through Tata Motors' authorised passenger-vehicle network and its online booking channels.
Deliveries are scheduled to begin in October/November depending on the variant and market, with current launch reports citing October 11 or November 11 as the start date. Buyers should confirm the exact delivery schedule with their local Tata dealership.
The Tata Aeris arrives at a time when buyers in the compact sedan segment are increasingly looking for more equipment without moving into a higher price bracket.
Its Rs 5.29 lakh introductory starting price puts the Aeris below the Dzire's current entry price. However, price is only one part of the comparison. Buyers will also need to consider engine performance, fuel economy, after-sales support, interior space, features and variant-wise equipment before making a purchase decision.
The Aeris also gets a CNG option, AMT transmission choices and a long list of technology and safety features, giving Tata a broader product proposition in the segment.
