Volvo car is preparing to expand its electric vehicle portfolio in India with two new flagship models. The Swedish luxury carmaker has confirmed that the Volvo EX90 electric SUV and ES90 electric sedan will be launched in India on October 12, 2026.

Both models will sit at the top of Volvo’s respective SUV and sedan line-ups in India and will be based on the company’s advanced SPA2 800V electric vehicle architecture.

Volvo EX90: Flagship Electric SUV

The Volvo EX90 is positioned as the electric successor in spirit to the XC90 and shares similar large-SUV proportions. It measures 5,037 mm in length, 1,964 mm in width and 1,744 mm in height, with a 2,985 mm wheelbase.

The SUV gets a closed-off front grille, flush-fitting door handles and aerodynamic alloy wheels measuring up to 22 inches. Volvo's signature Thor's Hammer LED headlights receive a new pixel-inspired design. The headlights are integrated behind the daytime running lights, with the DRLs moving to reveal the main lighting elements.

A prominent sensor housing on the windscreen forms part of the EX90's advanced driver-assistance hardware, supporting its high-level ADAS capabilities.

EX90 Interior and Features

Inside, the EX90 follows Volvo's minimalist design philosophy. A 14.5-inch portrait touchscreen dominates the dashboard and uses a Google-based interface with integrated Google services. The SUV also gets a 9-inch digital driver's display and a 13.2-inch head-up display.

Depending on the configuration, the EX90 can be offered with six- or seven-seat layouts. With all seating rows in use, boot capacity is rated at around 384 litres, while a 45-litre front storage compartment adds extra practicality.

Certain international markets also receive a four-seat lounge-style configuration featuring features such as a refrigerator and deployable tray tables.

Volvo EX90 Battery and Powertrain

The EX90 is offered internationally with multiple battery and motor configurations. The entry setup uses a 92 kWh battery with a single rear-mounted electric motor, producing around 333 bhp and 480 Nm and offering a claimed range of up to 565 km.

The higher-specification version uses a 106 kWh battery with dual electric motors and all-wheel drive. It produces up to 680 bhp and 870 Nm, with a claimed range of up to 608 km.

The 106 kWh Dual Motor Performance version can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in approximately 4 seconds.

Volvo ES90: Electric Successor to the S90

Joining the EX90 will be the Volvo ES90, an all-electric sedan that effectively takes over the flagship sedan role previously occupied by the S90, which was discontinued in India in 2025.

The ES90 shares much of its design language with the EX90, including Volvo's closed-off front treatment, pixel-style Thor's Hammer lighting signature and vertically positioned lighting elements.

However, unlike the EX90, the ES90's headlights do not use the moving DRL mechanism. Other exterior highlights include flush door handles, alloy wheels of up to 22 inches, C-shaped rear lighting and vertically positioned brake lights.

The sedan's aerodynamic design gives it a 0.25 Cd drag coefficient, helping improve efficiency and electric range.

ES90 Interior and Practicality

The ES90 adopts a dashboard design similar to the EX90, including the large portrait-oriented central touchscreen and minimalist cabin layout. The centre console receives a few additional physical controls and enclosed storage compared with the SUV.

Unlike the EX90, the ES90 is strictly a five-seater. It offers a 424-litre boot along with a 27-litre frunk.

ES90 Battery, Range and Performance

The ES90 shares its battery and motor configurations with the EX90 thanks to the common SPA2 800V architecture. However, its lower weight and more aerodynamic body help it deliver a higher claimed driving range.

The 696 km claimed range of the 106 kWh ES90 makes it one of the most range-focused luxury EVs in Volvo's global line-up.
