MINI cars has unveiled the new Countryman Untamed Edition, giving its largest SUV a more rugged and adventure-focused character. The new special edition combines tougher exterior styling with all-terrain tyres, increased ground clearance in selected markets, revised chassis electronics and a range of outdoor-focused accessories.

The Untamed  Edition is designed for customers who want the practicality of the Countryman with a stronger emphasis on weekend adventures and light off-road driving.

The model is scheduled to enter production at the BMW Group plant in Leipzig in November 2026, with its market launch planned for early 2027. 

MINI Countryman Gets a More Rugged Look

The most noticeable changes are concentrated around the exterior.

The Countryman Untamed Edition gets a redesigned front grille with a more upright, vertically oriented design. Several exterior elements are finished in Dark Steel, giving the SUV cars a tougher appearance.

The special edition also features:

• New front grille design
• Dark Steel exterior accents
• Redesigned side sills
• Revised front and rear underbody protection
• New rear diffuser
• Untamed mountain logo on the C-pillar
• Matte-black protective films
• Special 19-inch alloy wheels

The protective films on the wheel arches, side sills and bonnet are intended to reduce the impact of scratches and stone chips when driving on rougher surfaces.

All-Terrain Tyres and Increased Ground Clearance

The biggest functional change comes from the new suspension and tyre package.

The Countryman Untamed Edition gets specially developed Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus tyres mounted on 19-inch alloy wheels. The suspension has also been raised in markets where the increased ride height is offered.

MINI says the revised setup improves the vehicle's ability to deal with uneven surfaces while also giving it a more purposeful stance. The ABS, stability-control system and steering have been recalibrated to work with the revised suspension and all-terrain tyres. 

However, the Untamed Edition should still be viewed as an adventure-oriented crossover rather than a hardcore off-road SUV.

ALL4 All-Wheel Drive

The Untamed Edition can be paired with MINI's ALL4 all-wheel-drive system, depending on the market and powertrain.

The system can distribute drive between the front and rear wheels depending on available traction. This gives the Countryman additional confidence on slippery roads, gravel and other low-grip surfaces.

For buyers who frequently travel to hill stations, campsites or rougher roads, the combination of all-wheel drive and all-terrain tyres could make the Untamed Edition more versatile than the standard road-focused Countryman.

Multiple Powertrain Options

MINI says the Untamed Edition will be offered with different powertrains depending on the market.

The global announcement lists versions based on the Countryman C, Countryman D, Countryman S ALL4, Countryman E and Countryman SE ALL4. Availability will vary by market. 

For the North American market, the Countryman S ALL4 Untamed gets a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 241 hp, while the electric SE ALL4 produces 308 hp from its dual-motor setup. 

The India-specific engine lineup and specifications for the Untamed Edition have not yet been officially detailed.

Outdoor-Focused Interior

The rugged theme continues inside the cabin.

The Untamed Edition gets exclusive Nightshade Blue sports seats featuring perforated Vescin upholstery and knitted surfaces around the shoulder and headrest areas. The design incorporates mountain-inspired detailing and Cornflower Blue stitching.

The dashboard and door panels also receive knitted surfaces in a new Millennial Melange colour combination.

Other interior changes include:

• Dark Steel interior accents
• Cornflower Blue detailing
• Redesigned centre-console storage
• Elastic retaining straps
• Rubber floor mats
• Matching luggage-compartment mat
• Untamed branding

The elastic storage straps are inspired by outdoor equipment such as backpacks and climbing gear, reinforcing the adventure-oriented theme. 

New Colours for the Untamed Edition

MINI has introduced a selection of earthy and mineral-inspired colours for the new edition.

The available exterior shades include:

Frozen Nomad Blue is particularly notable as MINI's first matte exterior finish for series production.

Customers can also choose contrasting Glazed White or Jet Black roof finishes. 

Roof Tent Adds to the Adventure Theme

MINI has also partnered with AUTOHOME to develop a dedicated roof tent for the Countryman.

The tent uses a hard-shell design with integrated gas struts, allowing it to be opened quickly. The setup is aimed at buyers who want to use the Countryman for overnight outdoor trips.

MINI has also worked with HELINOX on outdoor accessories, including camping equipment such as folding chairs and tables. 

Towing and Roof Load Capability

The Untamed Edition also expands the Countryman's utility potential.

An optional tow bar allows a towing capacity of up to 2,000 kg, while the roof can support up to 75 kg while driving and up to 300 kg when stationary, according to MINI's global specifications.

These capabilities make the special edition more suitable for outdoor equipment, camping gear and recreational accessories.
