Mahindra car has launched the updated Thar OG in India, bringing a substantial set of changes to its three-door lifestyle SUV. The new model gets an updated platform, revised suspension, more powerful engine options, additional technology and upgraded safety equipment.
The Thar OG is available in three main variants – AXT, LXT and ZXT. Prices start at ₹10.32 lakh and go up to ₹18.99 lakh (ex-showroom), depending on the variant, engine, transmission and drivetrain. Deliveries are scheduled to begin from October 11, 2026.

Mahindra's official online configurator currently lists the AXT, LXT and ZXT variants, with prices varying according to engine, transmission and drivetrain configuration.
The new Thar OG continues with three engine choices: a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel, 2.2-litre turbo-diesel and 2.0-litre turbo-petrol. The larger petrol and diesel engines receive power and torque upgrades, while the 1.5-litre diesel retains its existing output.

The AXT is the entry point to the Thar OG range. It focuses on the core lifestyle SUV experience while offering essential equipment.
The AXT gets features such as electric power steering, push-button start, dual airbags, ESP with rollover mitigation, height-adjustable driver's seat, rear AC vents, rear demister, LED tail lamps and a tubular side footstep.
It also gets a 16-inch steel wheel setup, halogen headlamps and front disc/rear drum brakes.
The LXT adds several comfort, technology and off-road-focused features over the AXT.
Depending on the configuration, the LXT gets 18-inch alloy wheels, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, colour MID, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cruise control, electrically adjustable ORVMs, rear wiper and washer and terrain modes on 4WD versions.
The LXT also gets improved interior equipment and additional convenience features, making it more feature-rich than the entry-level AXT.
The ZXT sits at the top of the Thar OG lineup and receives the most comprehensive equipment package.
Exterior highlights include LED headlamps, LED DRLs, LED fog lamps with cornering lamps and 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. Inside, the ZXT gets leatherette upholstery, a leatherette-wrapped steering wheel and a wireless phone charger.
The variant also offers a rear-view camera, front and rear parking sensors and all-wheel disc brakes.
Safety is one of the major areas of improvement in the Thar OG. The top ZXT variant gets six airbags, while ESP, rollover mitigation, hill-hold assist, hill-descent control and ISOFIX child-seat anchors are part of the equipment list.
The ZXT further adds front and rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera and all-wheel disc brakes.

Beyond the cosmetic and equipment changes, the Thar OG receives significant mechanical updates. Mahindra has introduced its M_Glyde 4G platform, along with an updated suspension setup and DAVINCI damping technology.
The SUV also gets electronic power steering, a wider track and revised chassis hardware. These changes are aimed at improving ride quality, handling and everyday usability while retaining the Thar's off-road-focused character.
The 2026 Thar OG represents a more comprehensive update than a typical cosmetic facelift. Along with the refreshed exterior, Mahindra has added new technology, upgraded safety equipment and improved powertrain performance.
The three-variant structure also gives buyers a wider choice, from the relatively simple AXT to the more feature-loaded ZXT. The availability of both RWD and 4WD configurations allows customers to choose according to their usage requirements.
