Renault is preparing a significant update for the internal-combustion-engine (ICE) version of the Kwid for international markets. The updated hatchback has recently been spotted completely undisguised, giving a clear view of its revised exterior and interior styling.
The new-generation update is expected to make its global debut in Brazil in the coming weeks. While the overall silhouette remains familiar, Renault has introduced several design and cabin changes inspired by the electric Kwid E-Tech.
The biggest changes are visible at the front. The updated Kwid gets a new rectangular enclosed grille, taking inspiration from the Kwid E-Tech EV introduced last year.
The front bumper has also been redesigned. It now features a chunkier black plastic section below the grille, along with a faux-splitter-style lower lip finished with silver accents.
The lighting arrangement appears largely unchanged. The turn indicators and position lamps continue to sit on either side of the grille, while the main rectangular headlamps remain positioned lower down inside recessed housings.
From the side, Renault appears to have retained much of the existing Kwid's design. The flap-style door handles and body cladding continue unchanged, while the most noticeable update comes in the form of newly designed wheels.
At the rear, the changes are subtle. The updated Kwid is expected to feature new clear-lens tail lamps, giving the hatchback a slightly fresher appearance without significantly altering its rear profile.
The cabin is where the updated Kwid appears to receive more substantial changes.
The conventional LED instrument display seems to have been replaced by a new TFT-style digital instrument cluster. It is flanked by separate digital readouts displaying information such as temperature and fuel level.
Another major addition is a freestanding touchscreen infotainment system positioned at the top of the centre console. The layout takes design inspiration from the Kwid E-Tech, although the ICE version appears to integrate the screen more closely with the instrument-cluster surround.
The air-conditioning vents have also been redesigned and feature a distinctive Y-shaped pattern.
Despite the cabin redesign, Renault is expected to retain several familiar elements from the outgoing model.
The air-conditioning controls continue to use rotary-style knobs, while the centre console retains a row of physical buttons, including controls for the power windows.
The dashboard layout differs slightly from the electric Kwid E-Tech, particularly around the lower centre section. In the ICE version, the air-conditioning vents appear to be positioned on this lower dashboard spar rather than beneath it.
At this stage, major mechanical changes are not expected. The updated Kwid is likely to continue with the existing powertrain strategy used in several developing markets.
The international-specification model is expected to retain a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, producing approximately 70 bhp.
Renault's focus with this update appears to be primarily on design, technology and cabin improvements, while the core mechanical package is expected to remain largely familiar.
The 2027 Renault Kwid appears to be receiving a carefully targeted facelift rather than a complete redesign. The revised front-end styling, new wheels, updated tail lamps and significantly refreshed dashboard should help the entry-level hatchback remain competitive in international markets.
The official debut is expected first in Brazil, after which Renault could reveal more details about the updated model's equipment, specifications and market availability. Details regarding an India launch have not been confirmed at this stage
