Mahindra & Mahindra has reported another strong month for its automotive business, with domestic SUV sales reaching 64,092 units in September 2026, marking a 14% year-on-year increase over the 56,233 units sold in September 2025.
The company also achieved an important milestone in electric mobility during the month. Mahindra said its Electric Origin SUV portfolio has crossed 1 lakh cumulative billings since launch, highlighting the growing contribution of its dedicated electric SUV range.
Overall, Mahindra's auto business recorded 1,14,874 vehicle sales in September 2026, including exports, representing a 15% year-on-year growth.
Mahindra's SUV portfolio continued to be the main driver of its passenger-vehicle business.

The September SUV performance also represented an improvement over August 2026, when Mahindra recorded 59,257 domestic utility-vehicle sales. This translates to an increase of around 8% month-on-month.
One of the biggest highlights of Mahindra's September performance was the achievement of 1 lakh cumulative billings for its Electric Origin SUVs.
The Electric Origin range was introduced with models such as the BE 6 and XEV 9e, built around Mahindra's dedicated electric-vehicle architecture. The company has subsequently expanded the portfolio, including the XEV 9S.
Mahindra had previously highlighted the strong response to the BE 6 and XEV 9e, including more than 30,000 vehicles sold within seven months of their launch. The latest 1 lakh billing milestone shows how significantly the electric SUV portfolio has expanded since then.
The milestone is particularly notable because these vehicles are positioned differently from conventional conversions of existing ICE models. Mahindra has developed its Electric Origin SUVs around its dedicated EV technology and design approach.
Mahindra's commercial-vehicle business also recorded growth during September.
Domestic sales of light commercial vehicles below 2 tonnes stood at 4,044 units, representing a 19% increase compared with the year-ago period.
The 2-tonne to 3.5-tonne LCV category recorded 26,376 units, up 13% year-on-year.
Three-wheelers, including electric three-wheelers, also performed strongly. Mahindra sold 16,343 units during September, registering 26% growth over the 13,017 units sold in September 2025.
While domestic volumes remained strong, Mahindra's exports declined during the month.
The company exported 4,019 vehicles in September 2026, compared with 4,320 units in September 2025, representing a 7% year-on-year decline.
However, the broader April–September period remained positive. Mahindra's cumulative exports reached 30,031 units, up 48% from 20,303 units during the corresponding period of the previous year.
Mahindra's performance was not limited to September.
Between April and September 2026, the company sold 3,58,142 domestic SUVs, compared with 2,97,570 units during the same period last year. That represents approximately 20% year-on-year growth.
The July-September quarter also recorded strong passenger-vehicle volumes, with Mahindra selling around 1.83 lakh SUVs, compared with approximately 1.46 lakh units during the corresponding quarter last year.
The 1 lakh Electric Origin billing milestone comes as Mahindra continues to expand its electric SUV strategy.
The BE 6 and XEV 9e helped establish Mahindra's dedicated electric SUV portfolio, while newer products and variants are broadening the company's presence in the segment.
Mahindra has also expanded its EV ownership proposition through initiatives such as Battery-as-a-Service, which the company extended across its Electric Origin SUV portfolio in August 2026.
This strategy gives Mahindra a combination of conventional SUV products and dedicated electric SUVs, allowing the company to participate across different parts of India's growing SUV market.
Mahindra's September 2026 results show continued momentum across its core automotive business.
The key numbers are:
64,092 domestic SUVs sold in September
14% year-on-year SUV growth
1,14,874 total auto sales, including exports
15% year-on-year growth in total auto sales
1 lakh cumulative Electric Origin SUV billings
30,420 domestic commercial vehicles sold
16,343 three-wheelers sold
3,58,142 domestic SUVs sold during April-September
30,031 cumulative exports during April-September
The biggest development beyond the monthly sales number is the 1 lakh Electric Origin milestone. It underlines the growing scale of Mahindra's electric SUV business alongside the company's continued strength in conventional SUVs.
