The company said September was particularly significant because monthly passenger vehicle sales crossed the 70,000-unit milestone for the first time.
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles recorded 2,01,723 units in total domestic and international passenger vehicle sales during Q2 FY27.
This represents a 40% increase over the 1,44,397 units sold during Q2 FY26.
Domestic passenger vehicle sales accounted for 1,96,674 units, compared with 1,40,189 units in the same quarter last year. That represents 40% year-on-year growth.
International passenger vehicle sales also increased, reaching 5,049 units compared with 4,208 units in Q2 FY26, representing 20% growth.
Electric vehicles were one of the strongest contributors to Tata Motors' quarterly performance.
The company sold 47,150 EVs in Q2 FY27, compared with 24,855 units in Q2 FY26. This represents a substantial 90% year-on-year increase.
In September alone, EV sales reached 15,384 units, up 67% from 9,191 units during September 2025.
Tata Motors said EV penetration in its portfolio increased to 23% during the quarter, compared with around 8% for the overall industry.
This growing contribution means electric models are becoming an increasingly important part of Tata Motors' overall passenger vehicle business.
CNG-powered vehicles provided another major contribution during the quarter.
Tata Motors reported its highest-ever quarterly CNG sales in Q2 FY27, with CNG vehicles accounting for 28% of the company's volumes.
When combined with the 23% contribution from EVs, greener powertrains accounted for 51% of Tata Motors' passenger vehicle sales during the quarter.
This means more than half of the company's quarterly passenger vehicle volumes came from EV and CNG models.
The 51% combined contribution is one of the most notable figures from Tata Motors' latest sales announcement.
The split can be broadly represented as:
EVs: 23%
CNG: 28%
EV + CNG combined: 51%
The figures highlight the changing powertrain mix within Tata Motors' portfolio.
While petrol-powered vehicles continue to make up a substantial portion of sales, the growing contribution of EV and CNG models shows that customers are increasingly choosing alternative powertrain options.
Tata Motors also highlighted strong customer response across its wider product portfolio.
The company said the Tata Punch emerged as India's highest-selling SUV during Q2 FY27.
The Punch is available with multiple powertrain choices, helping Tata Motors address different customer requirements within the compact SUV segment.
The company continues to have a broad portfolio covering hatchbacks, SUVs, electric vehicles and other passenger vehicle categories.
Tata Motors also strengthened its product range during the quarter.
The company added products and editions including the Curvv SeriesX, Sierra Legend Series and the all-new Tata Aeris, building on launches made during the first quarter.
These additions have expanded Tata Motors' presence across different segments and price points.
The company also recently unveiled its new customer-facing identity, TATA.CARS, as part of its evolving passenger vehicle business.
Tata Motors enters the festive period after recording its strongest-ever quarterly passenger vehicle sales.
The company said it has a strong order book and healthy customer traction across its portfolio.
The festive season is traditionally an important period for India's automobile industry, with manufacturers and dealerships typically seeing increased customer activity.
Tata Motors has indicated that it expects to build on the momentum generated during Q2 as it moves into the festive period.
