Aprilia SXR 175 Maxi Scooter Expected to Launch in September 2026

The premium maxi and sporty scooter segment in India is gradually expanding, with models such as the Yamaha Aerox 155 and Hero Xoom 160 already offering larger-capacity engines in this category. Honda is also preparing to enter the segment with the ADV 160. Aprilia, meanwhile, is set to strengthen its presence with a new maxi-scooter based on its existing 175cc platform.

The upcoming Aprilia SXR 175 hp.e is reportedly expected to make its Indian debut in September 2026. Unlike the sporty SR 175 hp.e, the SXR 175 will feature a more practical maxi-scooter design aimed at riders looking for a combination of performance, comfort and everyday usability.

Aprilia SXR 175 Design and Practicality

The SXR 175 is expected to follow the design philosophy of the SXR family, while incorporating styling elements from Aprilia's latest-generation scooters. The front could feature a sharp LED headlamp setup, a large handlebar cowl and a tall windscreen.

Other expected design elements include a single-piece stepped seat, flowing body panels, a side-mounted exhaust and distinctive LED tail lamps. The scooter could also get a substantial pillion grab rail, adding to its practicality for everyday riding.

One of the key advantages of the SXR 175 could be its step-through layout with a flat floorboard. This would make it more convenient for daily commuting compared with scooters that feature a central spine.

12-Inch Alloy Wheels Expected

The upcoming SXR 175 is expected to retain 12-inch alloy wheels, similar to the existing SXR range. While larger 14-inch wheels are used by several competing maxi-scooters, the smaller wheels could help Aprilia maintain a more compact and accessible design.

The final wheel and tyre specifications, however, will be confirmed closer to the launch.

Features and Equipment

The Aprilia SXR 175 could receive a TFT instrument cluster, potentially giving it an advantage in terms of technology. The display is expected to support Bluetooth connectivity and may offer features such as turn-by-turn navigation.

The maxi-scooter could also provide generous under-seat storage, potentially in the 20-25 litre range, making it more practical for everyday commuting and touring.

Engine and Performance

The SXR 175 is expected to use the same 174.7cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine as the SR 175 hp.e. The engine produces approximately 13.26 PS of maximum power and 14.14 Nm of peak torque and is paired with a CVT automatic transmission.

Unlike some of its rivals that use liquid-cooled engines, Aprilia's 175cc powertrain uses air cooling. The combination is expected to offer a balance between performance and everyday usability.

Expected Rivals

Once launched, the Aprilia SXR 175 will compete in India's growing premium scooter segment. Its key rivals are expected to include the Yamaha Aerox 155, Hero Xoom 160 and Honda ADV 160.

With maxi-scooter styling, a practical floorboard, a larger-capacity engine and potentially a TFT display, the SXR 175 could give Aprilia a strong option for buyers seeking a premium scooter with a sportier character.
