August 2026 Sub-4m SUV Sales: Tata Punch Leads, Fronx and Nexon Follow

India’s sub-4m SUV segment recorded strong growth in August 2026, with total sales reaching 1,21,391 units. This represents a 40.9% year-on-year increase compared with 86,169 units sold in August 2025.

The segment continued to see strong demand across multiple brands, with Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Kia and Mahindra among the key manufacturers contributing to the growth.

The Tata Punch emerged as the best-selling sub-4m SUV in August 2026, followed by the Maruti Suzuki Fronx and Tata Nexon.

Tata Punch Retains Top Position

The Tata Punch continued its strong performance and topped the sub-4m SUV sales chart in August 2026.

Tata sold 21,320 units of the Punch during the month, compared with 10,704 units in August 2025. This resulted in an impressive 99.2% YoY growth, giving the Punch around 17.6% of the segment.

The strong performance helped the Punch maintain a clear lead over its closest competitors.

Maruti Fronx Secures Second Position

The Maruti Suzuki Fronx finished August in second place with 18,730 units.

Compared with 12,422 units sold during the same month last year, Fronx sales increased by 50.8%. The model accounted for approximately 15.4% of total sub-4m SUV sales.

Tata Nexon Finishes Third

The Tata Nexon recorded 18,431 units in August 2026, securing third position.

Sales increased from 14,004 units in August 2025, resulting in 31.6% YoY growth. With these numbers, the Nexon captured around 15.2% segment share.

Brezza and Venue Complete the Top Five

The Maruti Suzuki Brezza remained one of the strongest performers in the segment, registering 15,288 units in August 2026.

Brezza sales were up 12.2% YoY, compared with 13,620 units in August 2025.

The Hyundai Venue occupied fifth position with 11,365 units. It recorded a healthy 40.2% YoY growth over 8,109 units sold in August 2025.

Sonet, XUV 3XO and Exter Post Strong Growth

The Kia Sonet ranked sixth with 9,048 units, registering 16.9% YoY growth.

The Mahindra XUV 3XO followed with 8,302 units. Its sales increased by 50.4% compared with 5,521 units in August 2025.

The Hyundai Exter recorded one of the strongest growth rates among the higher-volume models. With 8,157 units, Exter sales increased by 61.2% YoY.

Kylaq and Other SUVs

The Skoda Kylaq recorded 3,590 units in August 2026, up 15.8% from 3,099 units a year earlier.

Toyota Taisor registered 2,863 units, while Kia Syros recorded 1,742 units. Syros posted a particularly sharp 465.6% YoY increase, although the comparison is against a relatively low base.

Nissan Magnite recorded 1,495 units, followed by Maruti Suzuki Jimny at 586 units and Renault Kiger at 474 units.
