Hero Splendor Plus: Why Is This Commuter Bike Still So Popular?

The Hero Splendor Plus has become one of the most familiar commuter motorcycles on Indian roads. Its formula is simple: an economical engine, lightweight design, practical features and an ownership experience focused on everyday use.

While the Indian two-wheeler market has changed significantly with the arrival of premium motorcycles, sporty 125cc bikes and electric scooters, the Splendor Plus continues to focus on what many daily riders actually need.

So, why is the Hero Splendor Plus still so popular?

1. A Simple Engine for Everyday Commuting

The Splendor Plus uses a 97.2cc air-cooled, four-stroke, single-cylinder engine.

It produces 5.9 kW of maximum power at 8,000 rpm and 8.05 Nm of torque at 6,000 rpm. The engine is paired with a 4-speed constant-mesh gearbox.

These numbers are not aimed at high performance. Instead, the engine is designed around regular commuting.

For riders travelling to work, college, shops or local markets every day, the focus is on predictable performance and easy riding rather than outright acceleration.

2. Fuel Efficiency Is a Major Reason for Its Appeal

Fuel economy remains an important factor when choosing a commuter motorcycle in India.

Hero currently claims 70 kmpl with E20 fuel for the Splendor Plus. The motorcycle uses Hero's xSENS fuel-injection technology, while its i3S system can switch the engine off during suitable idle conditions to help reduce unnecessary fuel consumption.

For someone covering many kilometres every month, this focus on efficiency can make a significant difference to running costs.

3. Lightweight Design Makes It Easy to Handle

The standard Splendor Plus has a kerb weight of 112 kg.

Its relatively light construction makes the motorcycle easy to move around in crowded streets and parking areas. It can also be easier for new riders to manage compared with larger motorcycles.

The bike measures 2,000 mm in length, 720 mm in width and 1,052 mm in height, with a 785 mm seat height.

This compact footprint is particularly useful in busy urban and semi-urban environments.

4. The Suspension Is Designed for Daily Roads

Indian roads can vary significantly from one location to another, and commuter motorcycles regularly encounter speed breakers, uneven surfaces and rough patches.

The Splendor Plus uses telescopic hydraulic shock absorbers at the front and a 5-step adjustable hydraulic rear suspension.

The adjustable rear suspension also gives riders the ability to alter the setup according to load requirements.

This is useful for a motorcycle that may regularly be used with a pillion rider or luggage.

5. It Keeps the Riding Experience Simple

The Splendor Plus does not try to overwhelm the rider with complicated controls.

It gets an analogue instrument cluster, electric start, tubeless tyres and a conventional 4-speed gearbox. Hero also provides a side-stand engine cut-off feature.

For a commuter motorcycle, this simplicity can be an advantage. Riders can concentrate on the road without having to manage unnecessary complexity.

6. i3S Technology Helps During Traffic Stops

One of the useful features on the Splendor Plus is Hero's i3S technology.

The system can automatically switch the engine off when the motorcycle is stationary under suitable conditions, such as at traffic signals. The engine can then be restarted when the rider operates the relevant control.

For riders who spend considerable time in stop-and-go traffic, this technology is intended to reduce unnecessary idling and support better fuel efficiency.

7. Practical Features Remain a Priority

The Splendor Plus focuses on features that are useful during everyday commuting.

It comes with tubeless tyres, integrated braking functionality, electric start and a side-stand engine cut-off system. Hero also provides a 5-year or 70,000 km warranty, whichever comes first.

These features are not necessarily designed to make the motorcycle feel premium. Instead, they support its role as a practical daily-use machine.

8. Its Familiar Design Is Part of the Appeal

The Splendor has maintained a recognisable commuter-bike identity over the years.

The design is straightforward, with a conventional motorcycle silhouette, a comfortable-looking seat and a practical riding position.

For many buyers, this familiar approach is important because the Splendor does not attempt to be something it is not. It remains focused on affordable everyday transportation.

9. There Is Also a More Technology-Focused XTEC Range

Hero offers the Splendor name in more than one form.

The Splendor+ XTEC and Splendor+ XTEC 2.0 add features such as a digital instrument cluster, Real-Time Mileage Indicator, Bluetooth connectivity and mobile charging, depending on the version.

This gives buyers the option of staying with the traditional Splendor Plus formula or choosing a version with additional technology.

10. The Splendor Name Has Also Entered the Flex-Fuel Space

In 2026, Hero MotoCorp introduced the Splendor+ Flex Fuel, capable of running on ethanol-blended fuels ranging from E20 to E85.

Hero described it as part of its move toward cleaner and more self-reliant mobility, while retaining the everyday commuter focus associated with the Splendor name.

This shows how Hero is extending the familiar Splendor platform into newer fuel technologies while continuing to target everyday riders.
